Cold Steel Heavy Duty Sword Cane (problem)

I want to emphasize this. Where I live it would be a felon to walking around with a sword cane as they are considered large fixed blades (>21") and are concealed carried. It's a shame, I think they're rather tasteful.

...For what?

In the Indiana laws as they are currently written the only illegal knives are...

Switchblades
Throwing stars
Ballistic knives

Nothing else is listed or banned. Sword canes are not mentioned, nor are swords or any fixed blade knife, nor is there a blade length limit...just those three.I consulted a lawyer and he too agreed that the way the laws are written there is no statutes that forbid the ownership or the carrying of a sword cane.

As for the rattle, the foam shoved down to the bottom does work well.

Get some spray foam for insulating a house. This can be sprayed down in the scabbard. Before it sets sheath the swordand allow any excess to squirt out. Leave it in there while it sets up and then pull it out and clean it up. This should fill every free space in that scabbard with foam.

If you use the construction foam method, use the minimally expanding type. The high expansion type would have a decent chance of splitting the sheath.

In VA they are very illegal. Of course VA is a Shall-Issue state and we all carry guns. So it all works out. Interestingly enough, it is completely legal to carry concealed extendable batons.

EDIT: Though after reading.

§ 18.2-308. Personal protection; carrying concealed weapons; when lawful to carry.

A. If any person carries about his person, hidden from common observation, (i) any pistol, revolver, or other weapon designed or intended to propel a missile of any kind by action of an explosion of any combustible material; (ii) any dirk, bowie knife, switchblade knife, ballistic knife, machete, razor, slingshot, spring stick, metal knucks, or blackjack; (iii) any flailing instrument consisting of two or more rigid parts connected in such a manner as to allow them to swing freely, which may be known as a nun chahka, nun chuck, nunchaku, shuriken, or fighting chain; (iv) any disc, of whatever configuration, having at least two points or pointed blades which is designed to be thrown or propelled and which may be known as a throwing star or oriental dart; or (v) any weapon of like kind as those enumerated in this subsection, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A second violation of this section or a conviction under this section subsequent to any conviction under any substantially similar ordinance of any county, city, or town shall be punishable as a Class 6 felony, and a third or subsequent such violation shall be punishable as a Class 5 felony. For the purpose of this section, a weapon shall be deemed to be hidden from common observation when it is observable but is of such deceptive appearance as to disguise the weapon's true nature.

It does not specifially mention them. Interesting.

As I understand it, mere possession is a felony in the PRK---even if you never carry one in public. However, state law would generally allow us to openly carry a regular sword that was not disguised as a cane.

It would make my life to see some guy dressed in blue jeans with a broadsword on his belt and then pull it out to like remove a splinter or peel an apple :D:D:D

In Virginia is it illegal to own or just walk around with one?

Canada, if its used as a tool and not as a weapon...

Good luck explaining it as a TOOL.
Horrible design for any sort of utility work. There's no way you'll get a cop to agree it's a tool.
Fine in the home, but just asking for charges if carried around(carried around as opposed to transporting it somewhere for trade/showing/practice).

It is not illegal to own them. But the going wisdom I have recevied is any blade made to conceal its nature is illegal to carry.

I recently had to remove my bowie knife from my backpack as they are specifically listed as illegal to conceal. So, I will be replacing it with a tomahawk.

In Australia, you would probably go to jail just for having a picture of that sword cane. :D

We have pretty vague laws about specific types of blades and what constitutes an "offensive weapon". Police officers have wide discretionary powers and often use a term; "time, place and circumstance".
Carrying a large fixed blade openly in a country town would not rate a second glance. The same knife in an inner city neighbourhood may get you arrested.

Carrying a concealed blade sword cane would definitely get you arrested if discovered by police. From an LEO's point of view there is no legitimate reason to be carrying such a thing in the street, and it is highly likely you would be charged with carrying an offensive weapon.

Awesome I think i'm going to pick up one to match my pimp robe.

Add some to the post, excuse for my English.
My SC is aluminum head, but it really looked like a stainless steel head.
The shaft is carbon fiber and has rattling sound when walk same as it's brother, HD sword cane.
I have tried earplug foam, but it doesn't last long, and becomes hard compress foam after using for few days.
I use the yellow soft rubber tube taken from my sling shot. It is difficult to slip in to the shaft especially when it almost reaches near to the shaft small end because the tube is bigger. So I reduce its diameter by stretching the rubber tube using a small cord ties at the both ends and pull, when it is aligned about 1 inch near the small end, I release the cord, leave tube to expand fit inside the shaft. Now it works well and still stay firmly fit inside, no loose and no more rattling sound. I think this can apply to the Cold Steel HD sword cane too, using bigger soft rubber tube, hard rubber will not soften the noise.

I cut off my cane 1 inch and put a new cap. So I found the rubber cap is hard glued, may be epoxy, to the shaft, not possible to take out by any solvent including the lighter fluid.

Besides the fact that you have one and they are illegal, unless you are pulling it out and waving it around and branging, how would anyone know you had it, because its purpose to look like a normal cane until you whip out the sword on whoever is assaulting you.
