I know this thread is a bash fest loving to hate on Cold Steel, but I picked up the Lynn Thomson signature model and quite like it. And before anyone asks, yes the guard and pommel have a little wobble to them, if you grab them and twist, you can feel it. If it doesn't get worse it won't bother me.

Is the guard and pommel being wobbly something to expect for the regular Leatherneck as well? Maybe I missed something, I was just unaware that might be a normal thing to expect. Doesn’t sound like a big deal and I guess it’s from the way it is assembled….is it a cable tang or full?
I have a pre GSM Leatherneck Tanto, and it's solid as a rock. I bought another one as a birthday gift for a friend (former USMC), and his is the same. I'm still looking forward to the new black Leatherneck Bowie, but I think I'll see how the general quality is before buying one.I own three different (blade style / steel) regular production leathernecks - pre GSM. Absolutely no wobbly in any part.
Just received my signature Lynn Thompson version and I'm impressed! Everything tight and secure...mine is number 0767. Gave it a couple strops and it is good to go!Crap. So then if I pull the trigger on it, I should be prepared to have to return it. That’s unfortunate, but the place where it is 150 does have a good return policy. Thanks for the info
probably low end knife steel (which is cheaper than aluminum)Those are all made of aluminum right? It's cheaper.... No real need to temper either. And I hope they are tapping into that prison labor for those shivs, maximize those profits... I should probably invoice JISM for my good ideas. Oh wait, one more idea - a poop emoji shaped 'shuriken'... it will be popular with the under 18 crowd.
I also just received mine # 2848. Knife is tight, no wobble in the guard. I also thought it was to come in a box signed by Lynn Thompson. It did not. Overall, this is a solid knife.
I have been abusing mine thoroughly. It will chop through the face of several 1x6’s and only need a few drags on my ceramic rod to get it back to shaving sharp. It’s definitely on the soft side for D2.Has anyone snapped this big D2 blade yet?
Nice photo, thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad the blade is tempered well. Excellent post!I have been abusing mine thoroughly. I decided to make mine a user after seeing the cheap looking green grip. I really hate the color, but I love the blade. Finish and grinds are excellent. My guard is rock solid too.
The only hardware issue for me is the pin. It was machined a little small, and it walked out by about 1/8” while I was chopping through a plastic 55 gallon drum.
I pulled it the rest of the way out with pliers to get a look at the tang.
I’m thinking about getting a thick piece of G10 and making a decent handle for it. Then pin it through the extra hole in the tang for more security.
