Cold Steel Secure-Ex nightmare! Sheath issues still not adressed! Beware!

CS is becoming shadow of what they used to be. I love CS knives I have, but would not really buy newer stuff.

Granted, Recon1, Code4, Voyagers and some fixed blades are still using same materials with same HT as before, but QC has went down and if you are buying online, now there's higher chance you'll end up returning whatever you got from them.

I just use cheap cordura sheaths I buy from a knife company. Or make one from duct tape. I don't like kydex, leather, or Secure Ex.

Laugh all you want. But at least I don't deal with paying too much for a sheath or scratching and dulling my blade.
I imagine the duct tape also catches any stray burrs that may break off as well 👍🏻.

What I can’t imagine is how anyone would prefer to have a duct tape or cheap cordura sheath over leather or good kydex.

sure, but now they are putting out some generic looking stuff that won't hold up. Lynn would never had done that. as an example this 2 pack sold at box stores in 3cr13 steel.....

and moving the machetes from a decent steel 1055 and s. Africa to China, and 65mn and so far hasn't shown they are built to handle the work the s. African machetes could. things like this.

I think true norths point was and I'm paraphrasing it my own way...Lynn would test product and never let complete junk fly through.....gsm doesn't care and if it looks sharp and pointy it's good enough. much like united cutlery does......
Ha ha, buy 'em for the usable sheaths and toss the knives.
I've actually done that with another cheepy brand.
(Wellll, I didn't toss the knives as such but they just sit)

I got him beat.
About forty years ago when I lived in one town and worked in another; no car yet, I often slept / camped in the building / business I worked in.
Some times I house sat for friends in that town.
This was until I found a place.
This ment food prep in primitive surroundings.
I bought a Henckels Classic 4in paring knife and made a "sheath" so I could carry the knife in my back pack.
. . . . using dense heavy cardboard like from the back of an old paper tablet.
I folded it around the edge and STAPLED the open side.
Even after I had put down roots in a nice home I carried that "EDC" for years.
Concealed, half inch over legal, I never gave it a thought. Yes SD was another reason. Not quick draw but at least it was with me.
For something to do, back then, in my spare time I hand sanded the grind lines off using wet or dry and a rubber block working through all the grits until it was mirror polished (and inadvertently a bit thinner). She's a bad a$$ little slicer !
Still have the knife, stays in the kitchen now.
Still have the alleged sheath in a drawer . . . cause you never know when you might need to go on walk about.
