Cold Steel Secure-Ex nightmare! Sheath issues still not adressed! Beware!

Sounds like it has been addressed, but obviously there is still older stock out there that doesn't magically disappear when they make a change.
That reply does make sense, but this is also first time I even heard the issue is noticed and acknowledged and also adressed as they said, still better late than never. I'm glad they adressed it.
I wonder who the genius was that thought that was a good idea for a knife sheath?
I wonder that too... "Billion dollar idea" that surley cost them a lot since plenty of people said they don't buy CS just because of the sheath... and if you Google "sheath dulls the blade" and similar stuff, first results are 2 YouTube videos about Secure-ex...

I'm glad they finally gave real response to that. I might contact them about my Warcract Tanto, but at the other hand, even "improved" sheath is glass material and I want leather one so it doesn't make much sense.

Regarding this thread, I sold my 3V mini Pendleton to S Smiling who gave me cash, and now sent his one back for refund. That one at least doesn't have gap at the handle. Regarding contacting CS for new sheath or going with leather - that's completley up to him.

I also got rid of D2 Manly Patriot and so on... I can live with around 3 knives. Collecting was never my goal, and I had more than I used. So naturally I sold them. This isn't a hobby for everyone...

If you think Cold Steels factory sheath is bad , try the factory sheath that comes with a Busse.

At least the cardboard sleeve doesn't dull your knife. ;)

Met a homeless guy who had a large kitchen knife in a cardboard and tape sheath. I'd rather have his sheath than what Cold Steel gives you these days.

It sucks, because they used to give you nice leather sheaths.
Hell, they could even do a Nylon sheath with plastic insert (with no glass!) and it would be acceptable.
Or just use Kydex...lots of people like Kydex.

Lol, maybe that homeless guy could start a business making sheaths for Cold Steel :)

YES they did provide a nice leather sheath. I miss those days.

And I also would be just fine with Kydex. I don't like it as well as I like leather, but I have lots of it and it works great.

you are right, op. the secure ex is a disaster and someone at cold steel is too stubborn or arrogant, you pick, to realize it. even if ya master removing and not hitting the edge. stick the knife in and accidently tip the edge of the inside of the sheath and create a never ending blade scratcher. been there done that.

this part of your post cracked me up......got me chuckling.....

"Even CPM-3V steel is no match for dulling power of Cold Steel Secure-Ex sheath." haha....still chuckling......

I'm glad I made you laugh :D
The goal of that post was to be kinda humorous despite my experience being bad.

And I agree with you, even secure-ex sheath that's made to avoid dulling the edge is just a disaster waiting to happen. I'll just steer clear of Cold Steel until they make change of material. If I am going to keep buying knives at all since I kinda lost all "fire" for that and actually sold majority of knives I had.

Just buy the folders. They are almost like fixed blade anyway.
Except he will break them lol... he broke numerous knives.
My main reason not to go for folders is that I'm lazy ass which doesn't want to have to clean them....

And legal stuff... they look at blade lenght at a lot so smaller fixed blade is easier to justify as a tool.

As long as you don't use folders to process game or prep food, they're not that terribly high maintenance. Can be a bit of a hassle though when stuff gets between the scales, haha.

I just bought a mini Pendleton about a month ago and took it rabbit hunting. Ill be honest, I thought the reports of dulling where overblown.

I took my knife out probably 20 times while finishing off rabbits and then skinning them and I didn't notice any dulling but I was trying to be easy when pulling it out as I had heard about this issue. I still bought a custom Kydex sheath so I dont have to worry about it.

Now the only issue I have with the knife now is the fact that there is a small gap between the rubber grip and the tang where Water can get in when cleaning it after a successful hunt.

This seems like a really bad design as there is no way to keep it from rusting over time. Im afraid to spray a lubricant in there as this knife is used for food. They should have sealed that grip.
Super glue, or epoxy or silicone / silastic?

yup, their sheaths suck if they don’t fit perfectly. And cold steel is shipping sheaths that are way too tight. I would just figure on adding another $40 to the cost of the knife to get an aftermarket leather sheath. Etsy is your friend, or maybe someone on here can make one for you. That was my experience with their useless sheath.

I like their sheaths, but you definitely need to file down the nodules on the inside/spine side of the sheath for the added clearance... it's a tight fit.

Cold Steels pocket shredding impossible to pull out of a pocket one handed pocket clips on their plastic ( Grivory ) handled knives are a issue that could be a simple fix that could have been implemented years ago tells me they don't give a crap about the end user outside of taking their money.

Think I’ve read the clips are intentionally tight so they don’t slip. They’re easy enough to bend out or replace.
