Like masterj, I got bit with mine when I first got it, not as badly but by doing the same thing. That spring is stout and the blade is rather huge and hefty.
The Spartan is a stunning knife, and I agree with Nternal about its incredible value. I've been disappointed in various ways by various other knives I've subsequently bought, thinking that because they were so much more expensive than the $55 Spartan they would be so much better in terms of strength, fit and finish, etc. Indeed these other knives are impressive in their own ways, but you get a lot for your money with the Spartan if that's the kind of knife you want--and if its blade length is legal to carry where you live.
Deploying the Spartan with its wave-like feature is challenging, though, not only because it carries very low in the pocket (which can be a good thing, too), but also because its thumb plate is closer to the blade and more parallel to it than the Rajah's; thus it doesn't catch the edge of the pocket as easily. I don't expect to ever use the thing defensively, though (I'm pretty old and have never found myself in a dangerous situation), so for me it's more of an interesting comparison.
