Review Cold Steel SRK 3V review

IDK , this is kinda open ended and not very definable . 🤷‍♂️

Might need to do some crazy stuff , not normally "knife use approved " .

On the other hand , you sure don't want to break a vital survival tool .

Hopefully , you'd have the knowledge, skills and be in good enough shape to apply them ...to know the limits of your knife and not exceed them , even in extremis .

yep. especially knowing the limits of really important survival tasks and things like chopping at iron poles, stabbing/chopping car doors/hood/roof, and chopping at bricks......

This may be true but sticking a knife tip hard into a piece of wood and twisting it out is an extremely unlikely necessity in my opinion. For prying I would carry a dedicated prying tool as opposed to using my knife, like this Russian titanium I acquired a long time ago....

Carothers apparently made an actual sharpened prybar of .350 thick 3V with the special heat treatment.

Not exactly my favorite style, but I really doubt anyone could break that tip off.

Fun review!! I believe the SRK is also the knife the US Navy SEALs are issued in BUD/S training?
Not sure but I think I heard that in the past.

The first fixed blade i bought as a teenager in the late 80s was a Carbon V SRK. It survived me and my friends on many hunting and camping trips which is more than you can say for a lot of gear. It was easy to keep shaving sharp and tough as hell.

Meh land cruisers are kinda commonplace.
A Carothers would be more like a Ineos Grenadier, capable and well engineered but pricey and in somewhat short supply...
CPK BFK and SDFK are very fairly priced. The last sale for field knives was quite accessible. It is like one of the older landcruisers- super tough and reliable without all the extra crap.

New models like this are still available in Australia and Africa, but apparently the EPA won't allow them in the US. The new ones here are just another iPad with wheels.

CPK aren't cheap, but they'll last forever.

No. The Land cruiser is all around pretty much the top dog around the world as an on/off road vehicle that will run for decades. The Grenadier is like James brand or similar overpriced hipster shit that looks cool but won't hold up over time.

To be clear here, Carbon V is something like 52100? Not that I dislike old reliable low alloy steels or anything, but I can't imagine why Cold Steel doesn't at least offer any stainless SRK. I'd like to see one made of AEB-L.

Yes, something like that. It may even had been 1095. It had pretty good HT and was coated so rust wasn't a big deal. Carbon V hasn't been offered in a while.

Evidently "Carbon V" was Cold Steel's pseudonym for 0170-6 steel, an improved version of 1095:

By all accounts, very good carbon steel.
