averageguy was banned so long ago I scarcely remember why he got banned.

Reading that this post was from STR really surprised me until I looked at the 2006 date... The ironic thing is that out of all the posts I've read about the "Emerson opener," STR (in 2010) actually made the absolute strongest case for pocket opening devices being fair game out of any I'd read. He even goes so far as to show an expired (pre-Emerson) Queen cutlery knife patent which looks functionally identical to Emerson's. Anyone interested in looking it up can check out STR's (excellent) knife blog, the information about opening devices is in the final four paragraphs of this article on the Triad Lock. http://strsbackyardknifeworks.blogspot.com/2010/06/cold-steel-mini-ak-47-triad-lock.html

Wow, seems he changed his tune for the blog post.

COLD STEEL ROCKS!
I know this is an old thread, but the the wave on my AK is the most effective of any knife ive owned.

SPYDERCO ROCKS, the best and sharpest knives in the world.

The hole on my Para2 is the most effective of any knife I've owned.

All these guys are stealing from Loveless!!

To be frank, if it does not look the same, then it is not to be counted as such. There are numerous protrusions to be found on a variety of knives that function as a wave implement. What Emerson has rights on is that particular style of waved opening. To say that someone else can't have anything sticking out that could even theoretically be used as such doesn't make sense, and inhibits creativity on the part of other designers.

Maybe Lynn shouldn't be playing up the wave action, but at the same time, one of his customers has or would have found out that it can be deployed this way, just like that monster Espada.

Slight differences in design make it agreeable to all parties except those aggressively defending anything similar as within their own copyright. This is normally acceptable unless the majority of the knife design mimics another *coughBrouscough*.

I'm always confused as to why people drag up old threads, then I want to smack myself for replying to them.

AGREED about the PM2 deployment. No knife has thus far kicked that sucker out of my pocket for long.
