Cold Steel strikes agin!

Just to make my earlier statement clear, if you are a home owner and defended yourself with a "real" sporting baseball bat, you would be viewed as defending yourself with a household item in a time of emerency. This specially designed "weapon" would be viewed as a weapon by design. Legally there is not alot of difference but as to the feelings of a judge or jury it has a BIG effect. I was a NYC LEO for years, and even when someone had a pocket knife with the words "defender" or "assain" on the blade, or a kriss blade or dagger, the judge stated in court that the intent of an individual is clearly expressed by his choice of weapon. I have seen the DA state that a legal shotgun was kept for the purpose of killing because it was not a 28" long barrelled shotgun.
I think anyone using this bat by Cold steel to defend themselves should also have the name of a good lawyer and some extra money for him......

I've always had a fondness for bats, myself. When I saw it listed on Cold Steel's site (After I stopped laughing at the Video where they're running it over with an SUV) I decided that I had to have it. I'm in the middle of a long-distance move and have a wedding coming up... but after that I'm getting one.

For this to work for self-defense, you would need room to swing. I the confined spaces often present in a house, something more compact might be better.

IMO I think COLD STEEL is like the embarrassing relative we all have, Its like buying stuff at China- Mart. You hope you don’t run into any of your friends or family. Kind of like driving a Hyundai, you may save some money, but again you pray no one that you know will see you in it. I have only handled a few CS but I just find the whole mindset amusing. Their DVD’s explain it all. I really don’t care if my BM’s wont hold up to a beating with a sledgehammer, or if my Rukus won’t withstand my truck tire rolling over it. Why because I will never do that to my knives, I do not see the point of a full-serrated edge either. Anyway that’s the way feel. Peace.

Tom19176,

You are mistaken.
Go back and re-read the statement from Cold Steel.
They claim that it's their first venture in to sporting equipment, nowhere do they claim that it is designed to be a weapon--only that it can be pressed in to service as a weapon just as any bat or golf club can.

Allen.

I like most of CS's products.. I however have no use for this bat because I do not play baseball, and if Im dealing with a intruder in my home my weapon of choice is a glock 21 (no trial).:)

you've kinda gotta love cold steel, they're like that kid you grew up with who would do anything. and the dvd is the best free thing i've gotten in the mail in a while. later, ahgar

If I cant get to my SIG with the laser grips the only thing I am gonna be swinging is my 18" HI khukri. That out does a bat any day in my book.

If I buy a bat it is to hit balls. If the bat is not any good to hit balls, then I don't want it. Indestructable is nice, but a baseball bat is to hit balls with. If it is a self-defense tool....well I have never heard of anyone breaking too many bats using them for self-defense.
Well, ya gotta make sure you have the logo facing foreward.

Blades have a large intimidation factor for most in our society. Many khukuri can be used to thrust as well as cleave.

The sjambok is the finest non-lethal self defense tool I have ever put my hands on. It is easy to use, hurts like hell, and is legal just about everywhere. Being non-lethal makes it a great choice for fighters and sheeple alike. I don't see the problem with it.

As for the brooklyn smasher, I have not used it for hitting a ball yet, but it is pretty much as stated: indestructable. And as for the legal question, If you beat someone to death with a bat (wooden, aluminum, or plastic), a crowbar, a brick, a rock, etc., you are going to have loads of legal trouble anyway.

Seems you're just looking for a reason to pick on CS.

i agree
some people like seeking reasons to prick on cs

I'm not sure why anyone would select a poly baseball bat for self defense considering there a so many better options. It's certainly better than nothing though.

I must agree with an earlier poster; the sjambok is actually an excellent product.

I don't know, if I was younger I would of definatly gotten the smasher. Mainly because I lived out in the country and I would use it to launch rocks, nuts, bolts and golf balls.

Then again I still do that, I really gotta grow up. :D
