Cold steel

When looking through the CS catalogue, the only knife that interested me was the Spectre. Does anyone have any opinions on this particular blade? From what I've read in the thread, some of the CS folders are questionable, though people like the San Mai steel.

I personally wouldnt buy anything from them after watching some fat guy ,out of shape person who thinks hes cool running around on a dvd with a knife like he is something when he is nothing but a mall ninja. What a moron.:jerkit:

Hello there, newly created bladeforums account, been gone a long while. In regards to Coldsteel products and especially the Triple Action folder:

1) Cold Steel, I like the company, they make good products, and with the $1000 I've given them, I've not been disappointed, with the exception of the Riflemans Tomahawk, it doesn't throw as well as I would have liked, later Trail hawk model I believe would be better and the 12" Tanto is too long in regards to handle/blade balance. Tough knives, a bit expensive, but worth the money. No I am not affiliated with the company in any way other than consumer. A Good option.

2) In regards to the triple action folder, I've bought one, tanto straight edge. Very happy with it. While maybe not as tough as the Voyager series, the difference is minimal. I've carried the tripleaction for a few years, and am highly impressed with the quickness of draw (under 2 sec with practice from reach to draw), and edge retainability. Not a heavy work knife per se, but for everyday use, its quick reliable, manuverable and all around a good blade. although there are slight problems. when I bought one years ago (when was new design), was very happy, although over the years, the small screws started to loosen on the bottom of the handle and eventually got lost. I called the company and asked for new screws, they said that don't know if they have any, except from an older returned/defective knife. so I sent them mine, and they felt like sending me a brand new one for free!, perhaps after seeing the wear I put on the knife after repeatedly throwing it at my walls and such. That was very nice of them :) Although they seem to have changed the screw design from the original nut/bolt design, to just 2 screws. which sadly I didn't like as much. Though with a little inginuity I believe one can improve on the design with minimal effort. I plan to.

To give a quick story of how I used my brand new triple action (the one they sent me), I went on a camping trip with a friend and fellow co-workers to a lake. We wanted start a fire for some steaks, and lo and behold nobody brought an ax or knife. So me coming to the rescue, I started splitting logs (reasonable size, not huge) by putting my blade on the top, hammering the backside with another log, then pushing my weight down on the knife for the split. Worked very well, though a bigger knife would have been better. after I split the logs, the knife was still damn near razor sharp. Leave it to say, if anything happened to my triple action, I would probably buy another one. Just cause. though I really really really want a double edged ARC Angel *dr00ls*...

3) HI Kukris pown ColdSteel kukris. Own an AK, not disappointed :)

Hope this was helpful...

Bought my first ever cold steel knife

It is a canadian belt knife it arrived sharp , the knife fits the sheath , it cuts stuff pretty good too .

I wasnt overly impressed tho , I think I have been sharpening too many stainless blades lately , or maybe it was just that the handle had the look and feel of the cheap chinese made junk found in opp shops .

Ive handled a few Cold Steel knives and found them to be just not what Id want personaly .

I bought this one off ebay , cut some stuff , tried to feel good about it , but couldnt , resharpened it and gave it to an old lady who has a strong survivalist mindset . I figured she would get better use from it than me .

Her grandson flipped out when he saw it ... the brand on the blade was so impressive to him , not the knife itself .

Ive handled a few cold steel knives , a tanto and a bowie and a couple of folders , seen the vid clips of the fat guy cutting rope and slicing into meat

I have to say it does nothing for me tho ... if anything , it reminds me of the ginsu adds of yester year .

I own a arc angel and a san mai trailmaster from them. I must say I'm impressed with the quality of these 2, but cold steel has as of 2007 replaced all or most of their carbon V knives with something called sk5 high carbon as well as KRUPP 4116, (I have no idea about either of these.) Also it seem to me that they are coming up with the stupidest ways to make money, I mean go to coldsteel.com and read about the gunstock war club! Could a simple baseball bat not suffice? And how do you think the jury will respond when they find out you beat a man to death with a large plastic gun complete with a protruding spike? (On a side note, someone should really tell Lynn that if he is going to do knife demonstrations on camera, he should wear shorts that go at least half way down his thigh.)

im new to this site and this is my first post. so hello to all

i just finished reading all 8 pages of this thread and am a little tired, so i'll make this kinda short. i own 3 cold steel products and they are all good if not great.

1. 24" latin machete-
pros-strong/flexible/good weight/comfortable swing.
cons- edge was not all that great out of the box, but with a little work was made quite sharp. hackin thru 2 inch bamboo like no tomorrow

2. bushman.-
pros- extremely sharp outta the box/ super strong/ versatile.(just attach a good piece of solid wood or bamboo and u have a great inexpensive spear)
cons- i chipped the tip just a bit, but that was my fault for missing my target from about 30feet and slamming the blade into a cement block!! haha

3. recon1 tanto folder-
pros- this is my edc and i love it i put it thru hell and is still in great condition. no play in the blade even after taking it apart a few times. the first time was to fully understand the locking mechanism which is superb, and the second time, was to sand off the teflon coating.. yep, i put some time into it and i have a polished blade on my black g10 recon1.
cons- none so far, except customer service said that i have voided the warranty by removing the "protective coating". stupid if u ask me, but hey, they replaced my friends 5" gunsite because it had one broken tooth.. so i guess it depends on what rep. u get.

overall, i love my knives from cs...... and not that i like LT, but im sure he's not a mall ninja cuz if he's down to to wear those little shorts then he's gotta be at least a little badass.

That has to be one of the funniest and coolest things I've ever read on these forums! Thank you for the much needed laugh, my friend. If I had a sig-line, I'd put your quote in it. Welcome to bladeforums, stang0084!

Regards,
