Cold Steels Cause It SticksMan

Meh...all of the dumb. None of the infectious joy of LT twinkle-toeing in a violent murderous circle of sword and meat. GSM's marketing just seems so haphazard and unfocused compared to the old vids from a decade past:

Look, there is a guy hiking toward the camera with a stick...for some reason. Oh his name is...it's..Stick Man..? Stickman? Stick-Man? OK, really?..

Ah look he's bringing the Pepperidge Farms commercial angle. Asking what classic CS we would like to see brought back from the dead. This GSM, man! They seem a regular Joe, like me! You know, an aggressive investment/purchasing firm you could grab a beer with.

LT releases a hostage video as proof (heh) of life as he blinks out "help me" in Morse Code that he and AD are totally not being kept in an undisclosed location until the ink dries.

Ohhhh look at the pretty girl! Hey she's really talented, maybe we should focus on tha...nah? OK knuckle-dragging it is, I guess. Stay classy.

LT gushes about various models of knives that GSM is still having produced and claims each to be more deadly than the last...because that is the only reason to buy a CS product.

Friendly Neighborhood Stick-Man goes ballistic chopping, slashing, and throwing the product showing his skill but none of the close ups of undamaged products like LT did.

And I know it's old stock, but that zombie video is eyerolling. TBH, Cold Steel's marketing has been a disjointed dumpster fire for the last 3 or years.

Image of I don't get mad. I get stabby.'t get mad. I get stabby.

I actually heard that in Joe Mantegna's voice in my head. 😄

That's funny you mention that, because I've wondered about Lynn Thompson's original Instagram video about the sale of Cold Steel. When Lynn apologized for "offending anyone" it reminded me of those videos where someone is falsely accused of racism, yet is under so much pressure, they apologize anyway despite being innocent of the accusation.

The conspiratorial side of me has wondered if the powers that be dug up or manufactured dirt on Lynn and forced him to sell his company because "he wasn't going along with the political program." Lynn was one of the last holdouts among big companies that was extremely Pro-2A and Pro-Freedom and very vocal about it.

It just never made sense to me that a guy like Lynn, who right up until the sale, was like an excited kid in a candy store when it came to talking about his knives and his new designs, and then up and sold a company he loved dearly, for no given reason.

Cold Steel was probably the most successful knife company ever built, and it didn't have to worry about funding its own manufacturing facilities either. It is and was a smashing success, so it would be hard for me to believe that Lynn was strapped for cash. Add to this how Andrew Demko reacted to the sale, and that just makes it more suspicious. Neither Lynn or Andrew have come out and said why the company was really sold.

I guess in a time of Jeffrey Epstein, it's not hard to believe that this could happen. Of course, that is just conjecture and nothing more, but this sale will always be a mystery to me.

I think LT just likes money.

I disagree Steely. Yes, I'm sure he loves to roll in the dough, but he is also the biggest knife geek around, just as we all are here in the forum. You can see it in his eyes when he talks about knives. Cold Steel made him a fortune, made him famous and provided an avenue to create anything he wanted. To give up his passion and an outlet to air his opinions that made him huge money just makes no sense to me. But as I said, I have no proof of any of this. There are just a lot of red flags that seem odd to me.

Cheers,

CW

It's all conjecture without any background data from any of the parties here. If GSM won't field a real mod on the forum, and if LT won't post all cloak and dagger viva la revolution-like here, then I'm going to fall back on Occam's Razor.

Which is more likely:
Guy in his 60s with no heir feels the crunch of both time as well as the headache of procuring products when the world is shut down. He has a spouse with health issues. A company looking to expand their product line offers him a very meaty check. Does he take it?

Or is it the deep state woke-cancelling him because they hate his freedoms?

Every business person who owns his/her own business wants one of two things: To pass their legacy on to their kids/heir or to sell it for maximum profit.

I would 100% sell Cold Steel exactly how he did if I were in his position and given the $$$. He gets a big payday and gets to go piddle with his line of spears and whatnot. I don't blame him, and I will most certainly be purchasing his line of products over the GSM offerings.

LT is an absolute legend, but I think the more likely thing is that an opportunity presented itself and he took it. If that's not the case, let's go back and look at all of his gushing posts hes made over the years right here on the largest collective of knife enthusiasts on the planet.

I do love the brand, seriously. I'm just not ready to make the leap that it was for anything more nefarious than profits of a life well lived and a financial parachute well earned.

I’m starting to wonder if the bread-and-butter models (ie. Voyager, Recon 1, SRK, AD-10, etc, etc) will continue to be manufactured or if we are all witnessing the last production run of these particular knives. I was hopeful that things would continue on for a while at least when the sell-off was announced, but after the 2022 product preview I’m not sure anymore. Or maybe those models will still be made but as downgraded versions (ie cheaper materials). Yeah, CS was definitely one-of-a-kind.

I believe that GSM will just slowly and quietly downgrade the materials and move everything to China once they feel they can get away with it. Individual knives will quietly disappear. That's why I think that this year is a good time to buy anything you really want because who knows what will be available next year or how QC will be. Or, GSM might cave under political pressure due to some nut using a CS product and media sensationalizing it whereas Lynn Thompson would have told them to buzz off. I can really see this with the Cold Steel Grivory knives because of ability for them to pass through a metal detector. NY has already banned them and more states could follow suit in the near future. So yeah, grab what you can now. If GSM actually keeps things going decently, then they will retain customers which I think is a good thing.

I think your prediction is highly likely. It would have been so cool if another knife enthusiast businessman with a similar vision like LT had taken the “torch”.

I have long been a knife and hawk thrower.

Most don't appreciate now hard and deep a thrown knife will stick into a target. I've demonstrated before the difference in penetration between a hard stab and a throw.

People are always amazed at the difference.

I taught a group of kids 200 or so (mixed young women and young men), spent nearly 8 hours rotsting groups through the stations. We had 8 targets set up.

Only one kid out of all of those, was not able to stick the hawk.

Watching videos of throwing knives knives, spears and hawks against real meat targets is interesting to me, showing the penetration and power....

But I would prefer a video showing the impact/damage and some discussion, explanation.

I don't mind super cuts showing all the impacts...but just releasing videos without the discussion/demonstration/product discussion is not as helpful.

This video demonstrates that a number of CS products work as throwers. Which is a good thing. Throwing is a fun and legitimate way to enjoy your blades. However, this video doesn't really strike the right tone for me. It reminds me of the 45 second intros people used to put in front of their Youtube reviews, showing them shooting guns, riding ATVs, and being a general badass. To me, they were a complete waste of time. Stickman really needs to find his own genuine way of presenting CS products. He can try to copy, but he never will reproduce the old way of marketing CS.

What's his BFs username? He should be tagged in here as a courtesy to help him find the right direction to spread his wings. Just because I think the name "Stick Man" is silly doesn't mean I don't want to see him succeed. Of course a new (better) moniker wouldn't hurt, or maybe just going by his real name. Stick man makes me think he should be some skinny guy.
