Cold Steel's Latest Announcement (Knock-Offs)

I view these counterfeits as little more than fake Rolexes. The people who buy this crap (for $10, no less), probably aren't likely to buy nice knives, nor are they likely to own decent knives. The question of whether Cold Steel actually loses any money is a legitimate one. After all, does Rolex lose any money when people buy knock-offs? It doesn't mean knock-offs are okay, but I don't think it takes any money out of CS's coffers.

I like CS products. I've also bought some real name brand stuff from DX. As far as I can tell, the Urban Pal knock-off has been removed. And judging by the reviews of the KO knives, the buyers don't know jack about good knives.

For ten bucks, much better liner locks are available.

If you liked nice knives you wouldnt buy CS products or support the scumbag who owns CS. My .02 cents.

Do you really believe that? Why, for example, are Voyagers not nice knives? Or Vaqueros, or Gunsites, or Recon 1s? In what ways are they deficient? Supporting Lynn Thompson is another thing altogether, and you're entitled to your opinion on that; however, your argument that they don't make decent, or good knives, is not backed up by any of the individual reviews or tests that have been conducted.

Lynn Thompson is fun to poke fun at. I also don't approve of him killing animals solely for sport. But his knives are pretty derned good. That's my 2¢.

There are really no new designs after thousands of years of knife making. There is however knockoffs of certain patterns and CS is far from the only company or custom maker that does it. That is one question but counterfeiting a companies name on a product is a different matter regardless of who it happens to. He has every right to go after a counterfeiter.

As far as cheap knives there are some darn good 10,00 knives on the market including some CS knives as well as Mora's and Kellems and Old Hickory as well as Russel Green River. I am sure there are many others. There is no need to lay out big money to get a good knife. More power to those who want to though, keeps more knife makers in business.

wow, a thread about how some chinese company making fake cold steel knives (many other fakes as well) and it ends up turning into another oh so fun cold steel bashing party...I DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!!!!!!!!

or did I...lol...I think we all did, we just didn't want to believe it would or could possibly happen again...hahahahahaha...

There is no doubt that Lynn is a scumbag, but that can be said about a lot of the owners of knife companies (cough Strider cough cough Microtech). That said, there is also no doubt that he does sell some good knives. The Camillus made blades were great, and the SK-5 blades have been proven to be tanks.

That is why I do not get involved with the polotics...I buy all kinds of knives from all kidns of companies and trade all the time (I trade alot more than purchase since its cheaper, lol) I keep what I like and pass along what I don't like or don't use often...I can care less about what the owners of the companies do or don't do...think about other aspects of your life, everyone here uses a fork for dinner right? Well did your fork come from a factory somewhere that people got laid off? Does the guy who owns the company put down other companies that made forks too, is he a prick? What difference does it make? Your fork brings the food from your plate to your mouth just the same doesn't it...I guess it doesn't matter since you don't collect forks right?

I keep and use knives based on performance, not based on politics...I try to buy from honest all American companies but that is becomming harder and harder these days and yes I do give in on some foreign products, but not because I am anti-american, its because I find them to be usefull, or a bargain...

I am not saying Lynn is a good guy, but I don't think he is anymore of a bad guy than anyone else, he is just more about buisness than about the knives...I am sure he is honestly a fan of knives and loves making them, but he is also a competative president, and what he does revolves around how can I make money., or whats good for buisness...He has a family too he need to provide for...Only difference between him and any other knife companies CEO is that he is more agressive, maybe too agressive, but thats an opinionated statement...

why exactly is the guy lynn a scum bag? im not up to date i guess.i usually bas a product on the product not the owner or ceo. if that was the case it would be hard to buy anything. for instance; i think bush is a scum bag and it doesnt stop me from buying postage stamps. flame me out.

Any business has the right, scratch that, the need to go after counterfeits. We are not talking here about knock offs or rip offs but counterfeits. This is not about using somebody else's design without permission (which is not as rare as it should be in the knife business among most companies), it is about creating an instant client base by passing your products as those of an established company.

Worse still, it allows the counterfeiter to maximize profits by using inferior (cheaper) materials and completely disregarding quality control since he has no reputation to maintain. This results in substandard products.

Those who love to hate, belittle, or insult Cold Steel and its owner need to understand that unless this problem is dealt with in some way, Spyderco and Benchmade will be next, if they don't have the same problem already.

Of course, I already expect to hear the same individuals who love to rant on the inferior quality of all CS products, when the sudden mass failure of CS marked knives start to show; it will be proof that CS is trash. When Spyderco, Benchmade, Becker, Kabar and other brands start having the same mass problems, then it will be proof that we have a serious problem with Chinese knife counterfeits.

How many adults posted in this thread? Seems to me that a lot of children with hurt feelings like to whine! And for the remark of killing animals for sport... well i eat everything i kill unless it's a sick dog but i dont hold sport hunting against a sport hunter.Maybe i should whine about how much i hate peta freaks and liberals!

Doesn't make it any less true.

I wrote them an E-mail letting them know, in no uncertain terms, that im glad this is happening to them, and they they are only getting what they deserve.

HMMMM if only my dogs were so easily trained.

I ahve already seen Benchmade and spyderco counterfeits...from the same website...rthe spyderco was removed already because it was a balisong counterfeight, and they took it off the site because someone complaiend that balisongs are illegal to ship to the US...But the Benchmade counterfeit is still on there, its an EXACT copy of the BM910 Stryker, lgo, and even the pocket clip sports the Benchmade name...as well as 154cm on the blade, which is most likely another lie...
