Coldsteel Sold???

Just out of curiosity, what is your favorite knife that was discontinued?
The 6 inch hold out I. For me, the best production edc ever made. Light, slim, ffg, I can carry it in running shorts. I've had the dlc coated version in saltwater and not so much as rinsed it out, several years later it runs like new. What really sold me was this... Camping one night I had a couple of beers and decided to see what the knife could take. Up until then i never had much faith in the blade because the ffg gets very thin, especially thin near the tip and edge. I owned multiple versions of the knife, so I thought breaking one was worth discovering the limits of the knife. I was stunned. That thin liner-less 6" hold out batoned through a piece of gas station seasoned knurled California oak firewood. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't the one doing it. Really, no other knife has seen serious pocket time since.

It really is a hell of a knife for it's weight and slim profile...this one gets tucked at the bottom of the CC pocket and you can't even tell it's there.

My personal opinion is that when somebody builds a large successful company that purposefully goes against the grain, it must take a tremendous amount of passion, grit, and creativity. That is not the kind of person to cash out and not care weather or not their creation dies a slow pathetic death in the Wal-Mart return bin. If he can realistically prevent that indefinitely is another issue I suppose. I'm sure Lynn had to make concessions on the deal, maybe the warranty for example, but I firmly believe him to be the kind of person who would take great pains to ensure his company would stay true to his vision as much as possible, while still being able to make a good deal and enjoy the fruits of his labor into retirement.
I feel like a lot of questions will be answered with the 2021 catalog, the Cold Steel rep on BF did say that there's a lot to be excited about. Or maybe the 2021 lineup could have been finalized prior to beginning the process of selling. If in fact Lynn and the designers stay around and have a bigger r&d and production budget, this could be awesome in the short term. About 90% of my collection is CS, mostly discontinued knives still in the box. I spoke with Lynn in person and kind of gave him a hard time about discontinuing my favorite knife, he looked me in the eye and said it's coming back. That was a year ago, so I'm hopeful for that and for the near future of CS. Beyond that, I think the Lynn Thompsons era will be a highlight in this industry and will never be duplicated.

This video got that hostage video vibe.

People can think it's weird to feel that strongly, but I went through it when Marlin was gutted. It was an end of era of something really different. I completely understand.

I suspect Marlin will be better than ever now that it's owned by Ruger. FWIW, the Marlin 60 I bought a few years back is of superb product quality.

I doubt that people like Demko are going to stop designing knives, just because Cold Steel bit the dust. As for popular knives like the Trail Master or Bush Ranger, I am sure that someone, perhaps Bark River or Blackjack, will step up and produce their own version. I only hope that they can pay attention and give us a quality leather sheath with a micarta or g10 handle and in A2 or V3 steel.

CS didn't bite the dust. That's pure bravo sierra.

That's the one, 11HXVG. Best edc knife ever made, for me. That dlc coating is bombproof, and the OD green is so beautiful.
Not only that, but it's ridiculously thin behind the edge. It's so thin it's hard to measure, but I believe mine is 0.012". So it cuts ferociously and sharpens in seconds. The CTS XHP can handle that thin an edge. I've got a Holdout II too, the 4" one. It's got CS's "grip and rip" serrations. Their serration pattern sucks at everything except ripping flesh. Seriously.
LT is a giant, a one-of-a-kind. Look at the Espada 7.5, the Frenzy, the magnum tanto 12. No one else would dream of making sh-t like this. Enjoy CS while it lasts, because you won't see the like again. Let's be optimistic and hope it's not the end.

It was bugging me so I called back. Same kid. He said they got nothing from Lynn. Just came to work and BAM. Sold and you're out of a job.

I feel bad for them and for all of you are such fans of the brand.
If this is true, I’m disappointed to hear this. Especially in these tough times.
