FYI, been advised that the auction page will not be up until Monday sometime. <shrug>

The collaborative "Bowie for Kniferights" knife turned out spectacular. Every person involved in the making of this special piece contributed exquisitely. I'm normally not a big fan of scrimshaw, however Linda Karst Stone created such a "masterful" lifelike image of the bull elephant on the handle, that I'd consider it the very best scrimshaw art I've ever seen. Great job by all involved, and for a great cause.

Jumbo

"Tembo" the Swahili word for elephant.

One of the most famous elephants was Jumbo.
The word "jumbo" didn't exist in the American language until Jumbo the elephant came along.
Jumbo was a corruption of the word Tembo.

It must be true, I saw it on TV :D

"Tembo Bowie" has a bit of a ring, a little alliteration and some rhythm to it.

"Tembo Bowie" is a great name, I like it. While the suggestion was late for our purposes here, I like the name and am going to use it for the other knife we built in this project. Thank you very much, watch for the "Collaborative Bowie to help save elephants" thread in this sub-forum.

The winning bidder of the knife will receive the knife and sheath, of course, a stand of mahogany and fossil walrus ivory, a Certificate of Authenticity, an autographed photo of the knife with all of the contributors to this project on it and this documentation of the ivory used.

It is hard to say, because the new directives have not been written yet but, it is our hope that with this documentation and all the hard work we are doing to combat the ban on legal ivory, it is our hope that it will be legal to resell this knife down the line some time if you choose to do so, at least within your own state.

Stay tuned for bidding information, bid often and bid high. It is a great knife and a great cause. Once again I have to thank all the talented people that worked on this project and Kevin Jones for helping me line up the talent for our two knives.

Well, I'm glad you like it :)
I thought I posted (the name) earlier from work but must've got distracted. When I checked at home it wasn't there so I reposted without reading. Ooops.
Enjoy and best of luck to the new owner of that fine knife… who ever you will be :)
