Collecting Production knives.

I collect but I like to use them, for me there's not a better feeling than knowing you bought a knife that performs. I don't like to have things I can't use.

It's a shame that I don't keep them NIB. I'd have made some good money by now.

I tend to use what I accumulate. It's never been about investment. I buy what I like, because I like it. It just happens that I like high quality knives. My limit for what I'm willing to spend for one knife has increased dramatically, but that doesn't keep me from buying a $25 knife that appeals to me.

Maybe someday I'll grow beyond accumulating, to collecting, but I don't ever see myself becoming an investor, as I like playing with them too much.

Daniel

Knives I should have kept NIB: MT LCC D/A Gen II, BM 730CFHS, CUDA Maxx 5.5, CUDA Dominator, BM 940 KOTM Blue, Spyderco Police Ti necklace, BM850 rec.knives Pearl.

I use probably around 75% of my knives, a few rare spydies I don't, for future trades.

I collect production knives simply due I get pleasure of owning beautiful knife or well made knife. Its monetary value is not important. But what really counts besides quality is that I could use any of them in work if necessary... Also one requirement for knife is that its very sharp. So before I add anything into my collection, I sharpen it.

I just don't see buying dozens of knives to use. A handful will serve all my usage needs.
I know a lot don't see buying them not to use, but if I had to use every knife I bought I'd have about 10. Anymore than that seems wasteful to me. It takes a long time to wear out a knife.
I like my knives new and mint. Just looking at them in pristine condition and admiring them is good enough. Ones I use I appreciate, but they aren't eye-candy to me once they get scarred and banged up.

I consider myself a collector and I've learned a long time ago... collect what gives
you enjoyment and don't be surprised if you don't make a profit on your hobby.
I got 'hooked' on the Buck 110 and I still own my house! :D

I'm by no means a knife collector as I own fewer than 150 knives, but from what I've seen, William Henry knives are worth collecting.

perhaps if ya are into william henrys..........imho spyderco is a better choice, they just have a higher demand.

as far as knives i probably have right around a hundred fixed and folders, most are LNIB though and i just collect the things, i have 5 or 6 users and really only 3 that i ever really carry anymore, a custom emerson specwar CQC13, a EKI CQC12 and a spyderco ti ATR PE,

why collect them? i suppose i enjoy it, its certainly hasnt been a good investment, for the most part, lol.

Wow, that's nice! And I am just struggling to get a single Buck 55... ^^ But very nice collection. I like especially much those with green handles ^^

I invest in stocks and properties, but I don't collect them. I toss them out when the price is already right.

I prefer to collect knives.
I enjoy doing both. :D

I don't consider myself a collector. I'm more of an accumulator. My friends and family say I collect knives but that is far from accurate. A collector to me would be like someone collecting every configuration of Case Mini Trappers release over a period of time. Or someone acquiring all the colors available in the Spyderco Native model since its introduction. Or getting knives for its exquisite beauty, high value and/or rarity. I accumulate knives for no other purpose than to fill a purpose whether it be EDC, gentleman, hard-use, tactical, hunting, etc. Most true collectors will not use their knives due to decreasing the value of said knife. Or if it is a used knife, it was used by someone noteworthy and/or had history behind it. I look at knives as tools. Which is why I would probable not get any really expensive and ornate knife or of historical importance. If I did, it would probably be the first of many. Then I'd be a collector.

I use and collect, but even use the ones I collect. As far as people saying they need to be MINT or LNIB is IMO totally wrong. Just becasue your knife is used or has some light imperfections does not in any way shape or form make it not worth collecting. It all boils down to the model and person with the $.

Had the Uncle not gifted me my Spydie C54, I would of gratefully paid a premium, even for a user that had been sharpened.

Heck, Ive bought some beat up users for cheap, got em all fixed up, used them, then sold them for 2x original msrp or for more than what some people sold NIBs for. There are no absolutes when buying, collecting, or selling, its all personal preference.

I move mostly Spyderco (about 70 Spydies and one SAK). I use seven of them (including Ladybug), also I have 4-5 back-ups. The rest are for my viewing pleasure arranged above my desk.

I just like knives. Production knives are easier to collect- easier to locate, cost less, greater variety etc. I use all of the knives I have, because to me, you don't know much about a knife until you've felt how it works. Knives are designed and intended as tools- if you don't use them, you can't understand the nuances of why they are the way they are- where they succeed and where they fail.

A mint in box knife will almost always sell faster and for more money than anything that's been, carried or sharpened, in my experience.
