Colorblind knife manufacturers

I don't know what to call the color but it sure looks like a Schrade Old Tymer I have laying around.

Think I might soon qualify for this thread...

Fancied trying one of CASE's new 2 spring Half Whittlers, saw a line drawing with what was described as Burnt Salmon Bone, I was imagining a kind of nice grilled or flamed look like fish gets. Then I glanced at some at some photos on the Net, uh uh:poop: a ghastly striped pink colour not flamed at all:eek::eek: Hideous... Ah well, I think the tea dye will be coming out as soon as it arrives:thumbsup::D

Even if I luck out and get one to my liking I think it's unfortunate for the covers to have so much variation. It's one thing for the color to vary but BROWN streaks, no way.

Shoot Alan. I thought you might like how they turned out. Seems pretty close to other SAGB offerings to me. At least the majority of them.
I like variation though:thumbsup: To each his own!

They actually turned out nice Mark. I still think it's unfortunate (especially for Jason) that they use a color term that has a history and then don't deliver.

Well, they do look much better finished and polished, I'll admit, but still a lot of variation and some white blotches where the dye didn't take. Don't know if there is enough variation for DLT to list them individually, but I think that's the only way I'll follow through. My track record rolling the dice has not been stellar.

That's been my experience too, unfortunately. I am often getting the runt of the litter when I buy unseen. Due to that bad luck, I don't know how I will go about purchasing one of this run, but I think buying blind is a non-option.

Shame for DLT, as I have enjoyed what DLT have been doing with their SFOs and they are a good company to deal with.

Unfortunately buying sight unseen might be the only "safe" option DLT has...
If they photo'd every model and labeled them "A, B, C, etc" add some vendors do with their stag, they may get stuck with more of them unsold due to unimpressive or particularly unappreciated dye jobs. But if they show a knife with a decent coloration, they may get more bites.

How many folks were let down with the amount of white and lack of dye holding in GEC's recent Rotten Banana Bone 48's?
If they sold them all by individual knives, I doubt they would have sold through as fast as they did.

Very true Bill. It's unfortunate that it's happened to DLT before. Just the opposite happened with my Rotten Banana bone from Bob Andrews. More ripe than rotten.

Just to clarify, we are not trying to hide any "bad dye jobs", people's tastes vary considerably and what person A may consider to be unappealing may be perfect for person B.

Also keep in mind that we have a 14 day, no questions asked return policy where no customer will be stuck with a knife that they don't want. We want to make sure you are satisfied with your purchase and will work with you to make that happen.

As far as photography goes, we photograph knives individually when they have a very visible or strong differences from scale to scale, but when they are for the most part similar, we do not photograph them individually, as there is very little benefit for the majority of our customers. For the people with more particular preferences we are willing to work with you as well. Just give us a call or email us.

Picture of how they turned out, fresh out of the studio.

Jordan, this is not a knock against you. It falls directly in GEC's lap.

Is it just me or is there a fair amount of white in those covers? Almost as if the dye didn't fully take. Now I am not all that familiar with the color so that could be normal for all I know.

I wasn't trying to take a pot shot at you folks, you guys are a fantastic vendor, and I am glad that we have you as a resource to purchase feom as well as hearing things directly from you as an entity. There aren't many (yes, some but not many) vendors out there that are comparable in this aspect.

I was just trying to state a possible reason that any business wouldn't take pictures of every single product that they stock. It is essentially the same product with a different and individualistic paint job and there is no feasible way to document every knife without bumping the price up to cover the labor involved. Nevermind any damage that incurred from opening the blades (rubbing), swirls on bolsters, or dropping the knife.

I don't blame you one bit and I am not looking at it as a negative aspect of your operation, just a reality of the business.
If there was any ill feelings or anything taken in a snide tone, I didn't mean for it to come across like that and I apologize for it.

I totally agree. I think the more they give us, the more we come to expect. They are definitely one of the good guys.

I am another big fan of DLT, they are great to deal with and I like supporting them.

But query why they individually photographed the orange camel bone 74s and not these 66s? I think that photos are needed on this run.

Agree with the accolades for DLT...they are one of my favorite vendors and have great customer service. I too would have liked to have seen individual photos for this run. This is the first time I have let a pre-order drop and not bought the knife from them.
I know it's me and not DLT...my perfectionist ISTJ personality rears its ugly head again.

No ill feelings here, I just wanted to make sure that it was clear we were not attempting to hide any issues with any knives and give some insight into why we decided to do what we did.
