Colorblind knife manufacturers

No ill feelings here, I just wanted to make sure that it was clear we were not attempting to hide any issues with any knives and give some insight into why we decided to do what we did.
I'm sorry I started this thread because it fell on DLT when it was really GEC that has the problem along with Case.
All I can say is the way DLT handled my concerns gave me the utmost confidence that if I was sincerely dissatisfied they would do what they could to make sure I was a happy customer. In the end, the knife I received was superb and their response to my emails meant that I will remain a customer. Here is the result of both GEC and DLT's effort.

To be honest I believe that is the finest handle version of the recent 66 run. The bone looks wonderfully translucent and 3 dimensional.

Alan, we know that wasn't your intent and don't regret the thread. It's been a good discussion. Congrats on the 66... it's a beauty! I received mine the other day, but haven't had time to take pictures. It's one of the lighter ones and while I was hoping the color would be closer to previous runs, I really like the result. Pics later. :)

BTW, big shout out to DLT Trading for doing this SFO!

Thanks for the support Al and I'm glad for the forum's thoughts about DLT.

They look very worthy and DLT's pledge is very respectable!

Like I said, if anybody abhors theirs they can send it to me for further enquiries:D

My CASE Burnt Salmon Half Whittler arrived today: knife is well made, excellent finish, pleasant compact knife. But that colour...? Burnt??? What?:poop: Without any doubt the WORST dye job I've ever seen and in a class of its own for ghastly... I was complacently expecting a darkish Orange with seared edges like salmon when you grill it on an open fire right? Oh no! Raw Salmon Going Off is much more like it. Hideous anaemic dead pink with grey white edges where no dye ever went. more than cheap looking. It's been in the tea bath all day but to no avail despite careful prep. CASE must proof this against colour improvement, it's a little darker but looks like Death Rattle Spittle:eek: Sterner methods are needed..

Sounds like you don't care for the Case burnt salmon, Will!;) I'm rather curious to see this grotesque dye job. Are you still looking for a Photobucket alternative?

Glad to hear the knife is well made, and I hope you can find an effective dyeing technique.

GT I did not dare photo it, cause of mass nausea. Got Imgur but still can't get my images from P-Bucket, they seem to be blocking downloading the album, funny....:(

Well, it was horrible to look at, twice in the tea bath has made it bearable but I've discovered very little W&T in the master blade, opens quite firmly but no snap at all and needs guiding back. Too late to send it back now:D This is the 2nd CASE I've bought this year and the first one had to go back due to quality sloppiness , starting to wonder about their contemporary regime...

Will, so unfortunate. Been there, done that. I have even had to dye stag and my most recent Case/Bose lock back hunter. Something is just not right here.

Another happy DLT customer here.

If we're talking colorblindness, why not talk about GEC's hemlock green? It's a dark reddish brown, I can't detect any green.

Granted, it's my favorite color GEC does. It's just a curious name.

I have a hunch that their 'hemlock green' color is some sort of insider joke at GEC.
There probably is some amount of green in the dye, but it definitely doesn't show. I really like the color though - of the knives that is.

I googled "hemlock green" and am quite happy they aren't that color. If you search "institutional green paint" you'll see the exact same shade.

Yeah, I've seen that one...it's straight up ugly.

I didn't read the whole thread, but as someone who is colorblind, most knives are way off the way they're photographed. At least in terms of overall color. We are seeing representations of what color a camera thinks a knife is, as opposed to seeing the actual item itself. No way is everything going to match up. Like paint samples for your house are printed, as opposed to being actual paint. It all usually works out in the end.
Thanks, Neal

I get pretty close to making it look as accurate as possible, but you're right, I'm usually taking pictures of the knives under the most optimum lighting conditions. As such, how they look in person may be different depending on the viewing light of the receiver (5500K day lights vs 7000K cool lights vs 2200K warm lights). This does not take into consideration monitor calibrations, either.
