Hi all! I ship out to USMC boot camp this summer and I am looking for a pig-sticker to carry once I graduate. It would have to be double edged, a good cutter, and darn near indestructable. Blade range 7-8" and preferably coyote tan or black coated. I am looking to purchase two in the unlikely event I lose it. One that caught my eye was the Busse FMV 8 so thats the aesthetic I'm looking for. If there are similar knives out there, or a custom maker who specializes in that type of knife, or even an actual FMV 8 I would be thrilled, but I've hit a dead end searching on my own. Thank you!

What exactly are you planning to do with it besides stab pigs? Is this something you think you will carry into battle or the local Arby's?

I will carry it when I deploy, but in all likelyhood I'll just use it to open mres or letters:). I want it to be something I could really beat on if I ever needed to though. That's why I'm interested in the FMV8. I need something tough and a maker who will stand behind their product.

Dude, I'm telling you right now, that is not the type of knife you want to be lugging around. I think you should focus on actually becoming a Marine before buying expensive toys that will be next to useless.

What would you recommend then? I see it as an investment as well, seeing the way the economy is going. I'm doing everything I can to prepare myself for boot camp. I don't see the harm in wanting to purchase a good blade.

Read and understand the rules and regulations first......then spend the money.......
I know guys who have carried large blades on deployement. I won't wear it stateside or on a base obviously, but as long as I have permission from my commanding officer, there isn't any rule against it in the field.

I'd recommend you get a good multitool, you will use that a lot more than a 14" double edged dagger. Don't take this the wrong way, but we see posts like this all the time from kids who are about to go to boot camp and think they need some crazy fighting knife to take down the terrorists or whatnot. Do you think you are going to get into knife fights? Do you have any experience in knife fighting or defense? Do you know what your MOS will be?

I would recommend the Carothers UF2 in D3V steel with the full double grind. But it has a 6" blade.

Are you going to San Diego or Paris Island?

Wait until after your training......
The process of becoming a Marine will change you mind and body.........
Your thinking like an individual that will be the first thing to go.......
Getting permission isn't likely at least not early on .......
Focus on becoming a Marine, begin by pre- training and go online to start study what they want you to learn.
Remember to Marines right now your a want- to- be, focus on earning the title before you start picking your own gear.

I have no fantasies about hand to hand combat with anybody, and I pray I never have to. No, I don't have any experience fighting with a knife. The mos on my contract is 0321. If I'm ever in combat I'll have my rifle. However, I would feel more comfortable knowing I have a capable blade on me just in case. If the Marine Coros feels like I should have some sort of knife training, they will put me through it. Other than that, I'm just a guy who appreciates a good knife.

I've been in the poolie program since January and I am a 3 sport athlete. I read any and every article about the Marines that I can find. I've talked to local veterans and I am in regular (at least twice a week) contact with my recruiter.

What is a 0321? I've been out of the Corps for decades.

Here is my grandson's gorgeous Carothers UF2 in D3V steel, full double grind, and Cocobolo scales. She just came in today actually.
