Combat dagger (custom?) Suggestions?

I'm curious if that Geneva Convention rule still applies, or if the US abandoned it long ago.

The current US issue 3S bayonet is partially serrated. The M9 bayonet that it replaced had a saw back. And the old pilot survival knife, carried as far back as Vietnam (maybe farther) had a saw back (though not a bayonet, still usable as a stabbing weapon).

It's the Hague convention as related to soldiers. The Geneva convention is related to civilians.

And otherwise no idea.

A 7-8” blade combat knife? No way.

Once you go through basic you’ll probably realize that something in the 4.5” +/- range is much more reasonable. Daggers also kinda suck to sharpen if you’re using it for anything more than looking at it.

It is fun to discuss. Especially knowing the likely hood of getting in one is almost zero.

I play airsoft. And have rubber knifed a guy once in about 3 years.

It was totally worth it.
Man, you see me on Prac Tac! Of course it's fun to discuss, that's why the smiley at the end of me post! Haha :)
Oh and lemme say I would LOVE to airsoft, I have purchased some trainer blades for some martial arts, and am trying to find a place for me! Going to bring the trainers on a camping trip and do some drills with a new buddy soon.

Oh, and on the topic of this, I think, unless I learn more, I am over daggers once and for all, except my Microtech UTX-70 (strictly fifth-pocket gentleman utility only, if not obvious), and maybe another thin Microtech.
They really AREN'T good, thin cutters.... the Microtech is, but I got a Paragon Warlock and WOOF.... that is going back. I have disliked, like, two knives ever since getting into proper knives with my Ontario SP-1 last year. If I need defense, reverse-S. If I need utility and defense, Wharncliffe, particularly Janich-style. I was always an advocate for daggers before really ever getting a good expensive one. "Why wouldn't they be good for cutting, what's wrong with their geometry?? They're thin double edged blades - they have the same utility as having two blades in a Stockman, double the cutting edge!"

Learning and learning in these knife times. But, I have become distinctly aware of a fact - my whole idea of what good knives are is becoming very skewed by my legal circumstances (AKA, folders only, can't carry a fixed). But then again, when I compare my Espada XL to my 10" Bowie and see that the 7.5" folder has significantly more reach...

If I was in the USMC... I would absolutely realize a multitool would be my best tool. So I would pack my P4 Squirt, Wingman, and a pocketknife. But I would want a good fighting knife, and I would likely bring my Espada XL in a sheath. But then again, I am not military anything, every man in my family who did any kind of worthwhile endeavor, or worked any kind of a job, died or was estranged before I was born...

Hi all! I ship out to USMC boot camp this summer and I am looking for a pig-sticker to carry once I graduate. It would have to be double edged, a good cutter, and darn near indestructable. Blade range 7-8" and preferably coyote tan or black coated. I am looking to purchase two in the unlikely event I lose it. One that caught my eye was the Busse FMV 8 so thats the aesthetic I'm looking for. If there are similar knives out there, or a custom maker who specializes in that type of knife, or even an actual FMV 8 I would be thrilled, but I've hit a dead end searching on my own. Thank you!

Asher:

There is a lot of input here for you to evaluate and process.

Please let us all know what your take-away is and what you decide on. There is no real rush. If you go to basic this spring, you will not really need to bring along anything but yourself. They will give you what they think you need and tell you what to do. The decision to acquire a personal defense or utility knife can wait till you are out of initial training .

Again: Please let us know what your decision on a knife is. Keep us informed.

One day if you have several years to wait to get on the custom books and $1,500 or so, you can upgrade:

Read through the thread. Pg 7 or 8

It's funny how it seemed that many daggers went up for sale after this thread got going. I'm not complaining - I enjoy looking at them.

Asher thanks for serving your country.
You will be amazed how the experience will change you ( hopefully for the better as in my case).
Now back to the knife search.
