Combat Diver Knife

Pretty cool that they partnered with DeSantis for the sheath and had Bos work on the formula for the heat treat. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not into the big Rambo type knives.

99.98% gimmick
00.02% homage (in name only)

Around $300, maybe...

I'll stand by my comment from the first thread about it a couple of years back. No operator on earth is going to use a weapon to tether their lunch to a rock in the surf to keep it safe until dinner time. It just makes no sense. Use your knife as an anchor to secure gear off-shore? Have an empty sheath swinging from your belt while you carry out clandestine or combat operations?

It will sell though. These high-speed, low-drag, bugout packers in Iowa will have one for when the SHTF so they can keep their lunch safe in Lake Placid when the big Gov comes for their guns...

Ditch the grapple to not tempt some hypoglycemic operator from giving up a combat weapon. Make it with a steel that's highly salt resistant and holds an edge that will make it through more than one bad-guy's vest, and use a coating that won't scratch off while opening a pack of cheesy-peanut butter crackers.

All that being said, it does serve the exact same purpose as the original Buckmaster. If it had a compass, I'd be a buyer...

I like the original M9 better. It seems a little gimmicky. I think a lot of military people seek out their own breeching tools, and when a nice piece is found it spreads through the community word of mouth. I could be wrong. It would be nice to have the disposable income to drop 1000 bucks on a knife, but
i dont think this would be the piece.

is this supposed to go into a production run? or just a handful of limited runs. I saw the bcci special run deal, which i assume is different for the catalog looking one color wise or markings or whatnot.......

If a production run.....i can't see this one flying off the shelves at that price. as MT Pokt said maybe 300 or 350....but 998....doesn't make any sense.

now I'll state a positive thing about it, since ive been so negative. I do like the rounded a bit end dagger style blade shape.....

I think I remembered hearing that there is going to be 1000 of them made. I could be incorrect on that however.

Wasn't the Rambo movie one of the main reasons for the success of survival type knives back in that era? I don't think you could draw the same type of interest today with this knife and that price point.

I wasn't a Buck collector back in those days, so I have no idea. I just recall the survival knife craze after Rambo.

I'd be interested in exactly who will be selling the knife for $998.

I don't see Buck doing it.
If so I don't see a full production run.

Is it a 3rd party?
Then all the hype simply makes it a money grab. I just don't see the value.

But that's my opinion, and I don't think I'm that far off.

✌️

Back when the original BuckMaster came out, I remember people couldn't afford the price.
Does anyone remember the original price? I seem to recall about $200.
Which is about equal to $1000 today. jmo

I don’t know what the retail price was. I wasn’t around back then, but the 85 catalog price for dealers was $78.50.
I think the retail price is double the dealer price. So let's say $150. Running the inflation calculator, $150 is equal to $430 now. $430 is probably not out of line and probably is what the price should be.

By the way, I was going to write a poem to elaborate on my lack of interest for the knife. But, since I have a lack of interest, I don't feel like it. I will expand my previous comment to:

Nope,
I'm not a dope.

I don’t buy many new buck knives but do we ever pay close to msrp for them from retailers or buck?????? I bought this new dive knife and it wasn’t anywhere close to $1000……. I’m confused.
what did you pay for yours?

Can a gold member ask a guest about value technically? You know I don't care either way 😅, but what are the RULEZ?
yes gold and above paid members can ask values.

not sure why it's secret.....it seems its a limited edition run of bcci and i guess another 1000 ones. limited edition runs typically dont get discounted and also arent a secret pricing deal. I know we aren't allowed to do deal spotting and expose bcci discounts.

whatever, it can stay secret i guess.......

guess I'm gonna be the "last2know"😉
