Combat Pen...A deal at only $99.99

I have no good news as of today. The refill I hoped would fit is slightly too large a diameter. That leaves us nowhere. I'll have to see what I can find in New York. :(

Mr Lightfoot made a very poor choice, selecting a refill so hard to find, so different from the general standard.

EB - That's unfortunate news.

I haven't had a chance to look around but perhaps this weekend I will get a chance. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Well, we civilians are routinely denied the armaments that are provided in the Army. I would much prefer to carry an M14 (I bet you remember those, ;-) , but they would bring unwanted attention at our public library.

Using a pen in a self defense situation is more effective than pummeling with your fist, and least likely to injure your hands. Also, in today's litigious society, you'd probably be less likely to end up in legal troubles if you put a baddie down with something like this, as opposed to, say, a Browning M2.

HEY!! OK, yeah, I do remember the M14.

How do you think you would do in court, defending your use of something called a "Combat Pen?"
If you got the money to spend, go for it. It just don't sound like a deal to me.

If you think you're clever, ...

The first rules of self-defenxe:

1) Don't go there.
2) If you find yourself there, leave.
3) if you can't leave, use whatever you've got to fight your way out.

If I need to tell you anything else, you didn't learn much in all your years, and I'm probably wasting my time trying to teach you anything now.

If you think 'whatever you've got' is a $99.99 combat pen, you're not going to teach me anything.
If you want to buy this thing, buy it. I would suggest you, if you must have a combat pen, buy a Sharpie. Then spend the other $98 on a reputable self-defense instructor.

ha ha ha ha ha

You know nothing about me, haven't followed this disussion carefully, and extend advice that has no bearing on my situation.

Thanks. As I said,

Usually I am pretty sure I am talking to a lonely opinionated white guy with to much free time(oh my god I just described myself).

I may just go to a stationary store and find the sturdiest regular pen I can find.

Skinheads in the UK used to carry steel rat tail combs as weapons.

Well I think they shine in places like an office or college. I would send my daughter to college with one in a heart beat. $70 bucks ? less then one text book......

Not out of place on a college anytime anywhere. A Kubaton? It will draw attention and questions as will a flashlight. Why do you have a light ? but its daytime . My oldest runs with a Kubaton and sometimes carries a fenex lp2 light that is shaped like one. people can understand a girl carring one while out running etc. But if she carried it at her Parks and Rec job or at school that would not work out well, a pen ? she needs to have one.

A pen can be in the hand and not even cause a second glance . Walking around with a Kubaton in your hand or waistband with be noticed, a pen is something all college kids carry.

Plus I can say my kids carry as little as possible, a SD tool that is also something one must carry on campus will ensure they have a SD tool at hand.

I like the way you think! Two thoughts...one the pen is $100...which is cheap in the scheme of things especially with pens. Second, if you don't like the look of this pen, check out the ones that either Mickey Yurco or Fred Perrin have designed.

I purchased a similar pen at Mil-Tac in Texas. They offer refills so I picked up a couple of extras. Perhaps they use the same pen refill? Worth checking out.

Perhaps. How long is your refill? Ours are 3" overall with a 1" neck and a 3/16" diameter barrel.

Edit: I just checked the Mil-Tac site. Not close to what we need.

does anyone remember the bourne identity?
he rammed a pen into the hand/arm of one of his assailants
seems like that would've worked on me, ouch

I had my three pens come in today ... out of the three, two were good as far as QC went. The cap was somewhat secure when closed, and it did stay secure on the back of the pen when open. Then the other one had a bunch of nicks all over the cap and barrel and would not stay on the end of the pen when open. I will keep the one I bought for myself as a novalty, I will buy the mil-tac one next though.
