combos

Hi all,

RR This is the combo I carry.

The two knives and the sheath a long with the sharpener and the match safe I carry on my right side. The BPA (Breeden Pocket Axe) I carry on my left side. I just slide it down in between my pants and belt. I was carring the BPA on my Shoulder kit like in this pic

But about a week back I for some reason had a idea to just carry it on my person and just slid it down in between my belt and pants and have been carring my hatchet like ever since.

Just a little side note and story. last friday Kathy went to see her mom for the weekend so I decided to go camping. :D I packed up my gear and put it my ATV. I went to one of campsites that is permante. At this place my nephew and I put a leanto type shed up. it has a tin roof and tin sides sides. With an open face with a rock fire place in front for our fires. Ok I get there un load my gear and here Kelly Girl starting to bark and howle. I figure she picked up the scent of a rabbit so I go over to see I just put down my Survival kit ( sling bag that I normally carry). Well I walk over to where KG is barking up a storm and the next thing I know is that I have fallen into a hole:eek: and wedge my right foot into it :eek:( I am telling you all I was scared ) for that first 10 seconds or so I just sat there stunned. I looked down at my right foot and could see that my toes were facing up and my heal was down further in the hole and like I said it was wedged in there pretty tight.
after the holy smokes I said  and several other things I said :D I tried to move my foot. I was pretty sure that i did not break or sprain any thing becasue there was no pain. But like I said I wedged my foot and lower leg in that hole I am 5'10" and about 200 pounds so when I went down I mean I went down and so unxspectedly. Ok I tried to move my foot and pull it out no go it would not budge. I thinking Oh great. I tried again and this time my foot came out. Thank goodness. But what if I was not able to get my foot out The first time I tried and my foot did not pull free ? That got me to thinking about what I carry I thought I could take my knife and start to dig around my foot and leg area in the dirt and free my leg. you know in the spring to fall digging is easy in my area. but in winter it is not so easy. Frozen ground is hard to dig in. later that day I had to go to the rest room and so I took my U-dig it hand shovel off my survival kit and went to dig a hole guess what even with a steel hand shovel all I did was scrape some dirt. I carry 2 fixed blades and now my hatchet every day now. Lifes unexspected turn of events makes me carry what I carry because of the way things have gone in my life. I live out on a farm and our nearest neighbor is 1 mile away. If you go 3 other ways and it is even further to people. Screaming is ok and using a whisle is even better but with now one out side then what. Point being is that some carry a pocket knife and that is all they need some carry like myself more and heaver duty type tools. I really think my bigger knife would have dug up the frozen dirt but if not having my hatchet would have.
I have said this befor hatchets and knives just go together while walking in the wood I think:D

So that being said RR this is the combo I carry as on now.

Great thread RR,

Bryan

Mora #1, Fiskars 14"

or,

Mora #1, Bahco Laplander

And that's pretty much exclusively it, no pocket knives.

I have a plethora of other tools (Fallkniven F1, Gransfors Wildlife Hatchet, Ontario SP8, etc.) that just collect dust, this combo works very well for me. My folding knives are only used in the city.

My primary right now is:

- Busse SARSquatch with the PSK sheath
- SAK Farmer modded by Scibeer with awl, saw and blade
- Busse Game Warden, or the Swamp Rat SWarden

Chopweiler/Swamp Warden for big trips:

JK Kephart/JK Pocket Kephart for small trips:

Either way, my Tidioute comes along:

If I really need it, I'll bring along a hatchet. Right now it's a Snow & Neally Pen Bay, but I'm almost due on the waiting list for a Reeves Nessmuk.

Bryan....

I had a similar incident happen to me, only it was rock!! I eventually had to cut my boot off from the toe straight thru the laces with a SAK. Ever try to cut the steel toe cap out of a pair of workboots with a SAK? (I may write a thread about that experience.)

Anyway.... I now carry a hawk so next time I can hack my leg off at the knee... er... uh... legs grow back, don't they?

I carry a CS Norse Hawk, one of my Buskknives, a Leatherman and a Strife (striker-knife) in my Firepouch.

For me, Green River 6" butcher, Granfors hatchet and a SAK. (but if i'm carving i like to take a mora too). Covers all the bases nicely without too much overlap.

Chris. I havn't seen you post much..Just wanted to say Welcome brother...

Magnussen, you are a seriously talented hombre..your stuff is awesome.

Hi all,

Rick No I have never even thought about cutting a steel toe off my boot
and never a thought about doing that with my foot still in the boot:eek:
I tell ya Rick that little mis hap that I it gave me quit a scare LOL I can laugh at it now but at the time I was thinking oh man I really have done it now. LOL
Yes Rick, write that story up I would like to hear about it.

Bryan

As for the limbs growing back that you cut off LOL that would e cool if they did, I have thought about that what if I really did have to do that like some have YUCK.

Chris. I havn't seen you post much..Just wanted to say Welcome brother...

Thanks. I joined a few years ago and lurked for a bit slowly learning. Now I think I know enough to contribute. Hi everyone.

Rick, that leather work is fantastic! My taste exactly!

Yeah, that's the style I like to go for too. Most sheath maker/designers just seem to wanna mass produce some crap that's got the feel of cardboard it seems like, though!
