What knives are comfortable in your pocket {I dont like clips}and in your hand? Im a cheapskate also. I dont mind paying for a quality item but a pocketknife rarely last a year with me, before I lose it.

Any SAK under three layers (i.e. Recruit-$10, Tinker-$15, Hiker-$20, Soldier/SI-$20) They are all amazing in quality and usefullness. The blades cut better than most other knives. The Small Tinker carries very well.

CASE Mini Trapper or Stockman, real value for money and not heavy in the pocket either.

Just about any traditional knife as a matter of fact.
The alox series from wenger or victorinox is nice as well.

Not to sound rude, but do you think there's a correlation between the fact that you don't like pocket clips and you losing knives frequently?

I've lost two benchmades, before I switches back to slipjoints. Maybe its just me, but the clip always seems to catch on something.
a slipjoint sinks deep into ones pocket and only comes out when you need it.

I think an SAK farmer or a spyderco native or delica(just remove the clip) would be excellent choices.

I'm assuming you want to replace your Little Pal?

I made some recommendation in that thread, but here are my favorite small locking folders.

Benchmade Benchmite II
Byrd Finch
Spyderco Jester
Spyderco Ladybug

All of these come without clips.

I would also highly recommend a Kershaw Chive. You can remove the clip from the Chive.

Boker also has a line of sub compact folders by Chad Los Banos. You have 4 blade choices to choose from and they are available for under $30. You can remove the clip from these as well (as I have). They also have an even smaller folder coming out soon, the KeyCom.

The clips do catch or rub on things every so often. I personally don't think I would have a greater chance of losing them with or without the pocket clips. I only tend to lose the things that I don't really care for, like my fisher space pen.

I do like the Spyderco Kiwi for a comfortable clipless knife. It ain't cheap though! It's excellent for office & gentleman kind of use and it has non-threatening looks.
On other days I like a traditional Laguiole knife in my pocket. It is not designed for heavy duty work but it IS remarkably useable and comfortable to carry. Great as a picnic knife.

For a smallish 'Gent's knife', I like the Buck 503 Prince. It's a mini lockback with NiAg bolsters, wood scales, and a 2.5" blade - 2oz. $25 @ W-W.

For a moose version of the above, you cannot go wrong with a Buck 110 - but at 7.2 oz, it's heavy - but what a standard 3.75" blade! Also $25 @ W-W.

While there - check out the Spyderco Native in S30V. What a knife! It's 2.6" blade is unreal in sharpness & edge retention in it's price range. It's lockback design in a FRN handle - which fits my m-l hand more perfectly than any other knife I own, from the blade cut out forefinger rest to the notched spine for your thumb - very well thought out & executed design. You can easily lose the clip... I just don't like them! $40 @ W-W. These three are all US-made - and available widely.

Now - for a foreign knife... get a Swiss Vic Farmer SAK - nice build quality - neat knife - useful adornments - and, an SAK w/o tweezers or toothpick! Amazon - $16-$17 - get two - free s/h over $25.

I'll add four options:

- Most clips are removable. Find a nice knife with a clip and just take the clip off.

- Buck has a new model they call the "mini-folding hunter" or the Buck 55. It's about half the size of a 110, but looks just like it. Don't got one yet, but it's on my list. Runs about $35

- For a comfortable pocket knife, I've used a Buck 303 for better than 25years. Nice small stockman. Buck still makes them in the US. I find it more comfortable in the pocket than a Vic because it is not as broad and not as thick. Runs about $32.

- And for an off the wall suggestion in a non-clip, non-one-hand opening lockback, Google up a "Klein 44034 knife". Klein is the premier maker of electrician's tools. They have these made in Japan. Very thin. Edge holding is on a par with AUS8, though the steel is not identified. I've carried one on occasion for about 30 years. They make several sizes. Runs $30 - $40, depending on size chosen.

i carry a deluxe tinker. Its big enough that i know that its in my pocket so when i sit and it slides out i catch it before i lose it but not to large to carry so i havent had that problem as of lately losing them!

If you're losing your knives, maybe spending a bit more will encourage you to be more responsible with your property?

A Buck 110 is a great knife for under 50 bucks.

A Benchmade 710 D2 is an awesome value/performance knife - removable clip and all.

Either of those would make a great choice!
