Coming to a website near you ....

It's listed at .165 thickness -- which might be great for some -- I'll wait to see if the CG is .25 -- in which case ill scoop that up. If not, I might pass on the Ratweiler.

Well, the Polar Streets go up tomorrow; if I don't get one I guess I still have time to get a Ratweiler.

Thanks!

It will take the ladies a few days to see who scores a PVMS, but I'll go ahead and guess the RW-LE will certainly still be available to order. I make that guess because it's on the Website and not a Ganza-type release.

I put tan or black micarta in the comment box and I got a reply that it will be up on the website soon. Tan canvas ordered!

Is the anniversary Ratweiler differentially heat treated like the old Ratweilers?

No, unfortunately.

Where is the option for the official Swamp Rat colored green/orange G10???

PS - Order in for blue/black G10. :D

The CG version was listed as 3/16th when it was accidentally listed. I dont think it will be .25" like the originals. But I agree .165" was thinner than i expected.

I suspect the LE's start life as 3/16" blanks, and lose some weight (thickness) being satin finished. 0.011" per side isn't too much, but should be enough to get rid of the marks in the bare steel.

I noticed the same thing. Oh well, I want Blue/Black G10 anyway.

The description and picture has been updated on the Swamp Rat website. It is a muddy brown coated blade with tan canvas handle scales. As I said earlier, I put a note in the comment section of my order and I received an email from Trissy who confirmed it is muddy brown with tan canvas.

Im still a bit disappointed by this. Why fix something that isnt broke? I have never been a fan of +5" bladed knives that are less than .25" IMO. I still have my fingers crossed that it'll be .25". I can dream cant I!?

I'm a bit disappointed and confused. Is this one of the thinnest Swamp Rat blades out there? I was hoping for at least as thick as the RMD.

While I was hoping it would be .25 inches thick -- it makes sense that they made it a little thinner. The Rodent 7 is listed at .25 so I don't know if they would have 2 7-inch blades listed at the same thickness. I think there have been a lot of requests for thinner blades lately also -- which might explain the change. Either way, I don't doubt that it'll be a hit. Quality should always be expected out of Swamp Rat -- they know that so I'm sure this should stand mostly any test that a user will throw it's way -- other than taking down a Redwood

I know that I've certainly been a proponent of making the blades a bit thinner across the board, I see this as a nice change from everything just being .25"+ by default. The Scrap Yard Mud Mutt is a 5" blade @ .140" thickness, which has been selling like hot cakes so far. I see no reason why this one won't sell like hot cakes too, should be a very popular blade especially considering how much love there is for the original release.

I must say that I am tiring of seeing all the comments like, "nice looking blade, but I wish it was thicker". I know I've been guilty of saying similar things from time to time, but we have to realize that you can't please everybody when it comes to knives. I think it's great that the crew is trying to throw some bones for those who don't care for the performance/weight ratio of their thicker knives.

I have become quite polarized when it comes to my preferences with knives, I generally like them in the ballpark of .090-.187". That being said, I will be trying out a new Busse ASBHM at .33" thick just to try it out and see if I can find a use for something this big and heavy. If not, I've still got the 1311 to hold down the chopper role..... :)

Boy does that ever sound like a challenge for somebody to take down a Redwood with this Ratweiler, I don't doubt that it could be done though. It would just take a very loonnngg time...... ;)

FWIW, When I first saw the 0.165" I was kinda shocked too... I was expecting a TaliWhacker 3/16 thick kind of blade.
But I'm thinking in a 7" blade, this may not be a bad thing to have on my car pack. I've got a KDSH and a Waki for real chopping and this would be an excellent slicer.

This puts the Ratweiler in the AMSMO thickness range (it's 0.17") and if you saw Highrisk's post that little AMSMO went tip first, straight through a 2x4, no problema! I think that's tough enough for me to give her a go. :)

And I just went and ordered mine with Green/Black Hand Shaped G10 handles... :D

I think these blanks started life 3/16" thick, then lost some weight during the surface grinding process to get down to 0.165". That's less than 1/32" thinner...

I hadn't thought about going with hand-shaped G10 on this. However, given how much I like my new Mistress' hand-shaped G10, you've got me thinking about it now.
