Commemorative request

Talked to David today. Knives are on their way.
A lovely oak presentation box came from Ryan Minchew ,too.

Thanks to both of you.
Stacy

Although I've never served in the military, I believe anyone who gives their life defending this country is the definition of a hero, and their families are very deserving of all the help, prayers, and respect we can give them.

To all who are helping with this memorial to an American Hero, we could use more people like you in this world!

Blades arrived from GLWJ - thanks David. Grinding will commence Saturday morning.
Stacy

Had a crazy couple of weeks.
I got the blade ground and hope to get the HT done Sunday.
Stacy

Just finished the HT.
Will start sanding tomorrow.
I already turned the graduated size Corby rivets. Should go pretty fast from here.
Stacy

The HT came out fine. I sanded it to 1 micron (8000 grit) today and am ready to finish fitting the handle. I will engrave the names and such on Wednesday. Should be finished this weekend if all goes well.
Stacy

I'll take photos this weekend.
The status as of right now is:
I just glued up the handle scales and snugged down the five corby bolts. I turned them to be .180, .215,.250,.285,.315 . The .315 tubing for the thong hole won't be here until Tuesday, the knife should be complete by then, except for the thong tube.
The engraving on the blade is: (the dots are to make it show right on this post, they aren't on the blade)

TEAM SERGEANT
...MSG LILLEY
....1972-2007

Stacy

God bless all who are involved. I can not wait to see it,:thumbup:

Here are some quick photos of the knife. The specks all over the closeup are dust. not pitting (that would be real bad). I am including the CAD drawing done by David, at Great lakes water Jet, which was the final draft from the workup I did from Jason's sketch. The final knife has a few minor modifications from Jason's sketch, but is true to the idea, I believe.
Hope you folks like it so far.
Stacy

Very nice Stacy! Let me know about shipping or pick up. I was thinking about taking my son for a road trip to pick it up. I cannot express what this means to me but I will be packing quite a few goodies that you can use... Some mesquite, some burl, some homebrew, let me see what else I have around here...

Thanks again,
Jason

I've been gone for a while and just saw this. Stacy, you have done a wonderful job on this knife as always. I am sure that this man's family will treasure it.

Jason, I was going to email you .
I was thinking of making an engraved plate to put on the presentation box. It should have Sgt Lilley's full name on it. Do you have it?

As far as pickup goes. I am in Maryland this coming weekend at the Blacksmith Days. After that I will be home. My knee surgery is the 23rd. I won't be out in the shop, but I'll be home all the time until the 26th. You are welcome to come up and pick up the knife Sat, Sun. Mon. Or, I can express the knife and box to you this Thursday ( the thong tubing comes in Wed.).

The plate could say:
.....IN MEMORY OF
MSG THOMAS G. LILLEY (name is just an example)
.......1972-2007

What do you think?
Stacy

Stacy,
I was thinking something along the lines of...
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends"
MSG Arthur L. Lilley
1972-2007

Modify it however you need to.

Thanks,
Jason
