Relatively new to the Busse Sub-Forum, and have mostly just been lurking and buying off the exchange. My favorite Busse design is the ASH family of knives. I know Busse is well known for their choppers and they clearly have the larger end of the ASH spectrum covered, but I thought it would be cool if they introduced a "compact" version. My sketch isn't perfect, I think the handle would need to be a little longer and the blade maybe a touch shorter...At any rate just wishful thinking and I thought I'd share and see what the group thought, am I completely off my rocker??:

You mean something like a SHBA?

Yup! very similar. I know Busse has made a ton of different knives over the years, it's hard to keep them all straight. Something similar but with the contours and "butt" of the ASH (just smaller)

I knew your sketch looked familiar.

We could call it a BASHer...

I like it! Was trying to come up with fun Acronyms (because why not) I settled on C-ash or CASH because they would have a lot of mine if they ever made one hahaha. I like BASHer as well though, and might be more appropriate

As soon as I saw the sketch, my brain screamed "SHBA!".

That is a nice pair of knives, I hope to have the money and find one soon. The top one is awesome looking, are those the ones with INFI steel? I'm a newbie here.

Thank you, The top knife is a Skinny ASH (Anniversary Steel Heart) and it is made of INFI, 3/16" thick. The bottom one is a Straight Handle Badger Attack, and it is made from 5/16" A2. Welcome to the addiction, hide your wallet!

....... there are "some" among us who consider the ASH in the absolute highest regard. Till this year all ASH1s were INFI steel but in August the "Battle Grade" version was offered in SR101.

If you see an ASH you like for sale don't hesitate, again, there are some among us, who pounce each time an ASH is in need of a new home... ;) ;)

A little Ash. Nice.

Then maybe they'll make a bigger one for those of us who like a little more Ash.

Oh, I got it. They're awesome. I tried to hide my wallet but someone told me to go look at the swamp rats and I ordered a rodent 6! I have no will power at all, now I'm broke.

No worries maka! Once my battlegrade ASH came in I went a bit nuts and started buying more... I now have 3 ASH's and am waiting for my GANZA ASH...Broke loves company

Ok cool, that makes me feel good, the rat 6 is made of SR101, I was going to buy more but I was out of funds already after a manic shopping spree here in BF. Thanks for the info, I will keep on looking for one, I really like the design of these ASH knives.

Dang, the more I look at these the more I want one, thanks for posting this picture, what is the coating on them? Cerakote or similar?

NOt 100% sure, but they are not cerekote. The top one is a black crackle powdercoat type, and the bottom is a jungle green smooth powdercoat type. The middle one is uncoated, the picture just sucks. SR101 is a great steel, keep an eye on the exchange when funds recover, the ASH is a great knife which is why I'd love a small version!

The middle sure looks coated, I have used powder coating in the past and it is extremely durable, I took the powder coating off the rims on my motorcycle and it was really hard to get it off, I had to use aerospace paint remover, the industrial type, and I still had to work all day to finish, so if it is powder coating it will last a very long time, which is a good thing, have you had any problems with corrosion on the uncoated blade? Sorry for that I keep on asking questions, I should do some research, but I am enjoying learning from all of you guys, I hope you don't mind.

I'm a bit of a newbie myself and haven't put the blades to extended use.. I know a lot of people strip their knife coatings, and the underneath finish varies from knife to knife. General wisdom seems to be that INFI doesn't corrode much, but keep an eye on it just the same. SR101 seems to need a little more attention, but does not experience cancerous rust. I'll let others chime in as well and correct me or elaborate.

That's good news, I remember seeing a link in their website (swamprat) regarding their steel, I'll go check it out. I'm sure there are guys here that have extensive experience with all of Busse's knives, up to yesterday I had no idea they have three different knife companies in a group, very nice. Thanks Redwood.
