I was looking thru some of my pics last night and thought I might do a thread on some of the more compact stuff I use a lot in summer:thumbup:

Here's the pack. It's a Maxpedition Baby Condor? I think 2000 cu in.

Instead of bringing a stove I bring my hatchet and this Open Country Camp Boiler. It has multiple handles to facilitate using it over a fire. It also is about half a gallon capacity so you can store gear inside it to reduce space in your pack.

My personal dinner ware consists of the SS cup pictured with the pack (the titanium one is my wifes) and a Spork and an Orikasa folding bowl. (unfolded in this pic because I was using it to roll out bannock) The bowl folds totally flat and it and the spork are almost zero space:thumbup:

Also I posted before but the 40 degree down bag.

Also in my pack besides first aid, food and stuff is most of this stuff except for the GPS (it DIED) Also ditched the Brunton lighter due to reliability problems

Also have a poncho in there and one change of clothes.

In hot weather I have one set of hiking clothes and then one set to wear at night that are (mostly) clean.

Finally the tent REI Gimme Shelter since it sets up with trail poles and only weighs about 3 lbs and sleeps two(barely) it is great and very compact.

Great stuff. Since most of my outdoors time consists of day hikes or quick overnighters, I like compact stuff too. That way I can use a small pack for everything.

Can you use the opened up Orikasa as a cutting board, or is it too thin? I have been looking at getting a few of them and wondered how durable they were.

I have. I wouldn't chop meat on it or anything but it's thick enough to cut like sausage or cheese on:thumbup:

Yeah I would only do light stuff like that on it. Cool, I will grab a couple sizes at REI then.

Nice gear. Everything you need nothing you dont.

I hope you got a permit for that pistol as the forum now has a do gooder who will lecture and report you.

You don't need a permit where I live as long as it's out in the open:thumbup:

Good stuff HD. I use a Kelty Redwing during one or two nighters in the summer that I love. A little bigger than your Maxpedition however. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0040448590882a.shtml

I have never seen that cutting board. I like it. I'm currently using a small (5" x 7") plastic cutting board. It's a little cumbersome when cutting potatoes, but works.

I wasn't aware of that. Just what we need:confused::rolleyes:.

Yeah they have a whole range of sizes and stuff actually.

Year before last Joezilla and Rob G from KF went backpacking with Ms HD and I and he turned me onto those bowls.

No problem. I make couscous in it and pour the boiling water right in, and cover it with a hat to keep the heat in..

I'm buying one today. Have a snow shoeing trip on the 16th-17th for a quick two nighter. It's going in my pack.

It's funny how excited I can get over the simplest of things.:o;)

Same here :D I have looked at those bowls many times, but for some reason never bought one. But I'm headed to REI tomorrow.

I like that folding bowl, I'll check it out.
Just got an alox cadet today, it's super compact, I'll post some pics soon next to a farmer for comparison.

HD,

I see you use the good old W&L 600 Lafuma. The best summer sleeping bag i've ever used. Nice gear you have there.

dantzk.

Campmor had them on sale for 60 bucks last spring and I figured how could I go wrong:thumbup:

I got my wife one this year from Amazon it is a slightly difft model. More head room/hood but equally small.:D

Skammer, quit trolling for crying out loud. I am sure everyone else is as sick of it as I am. I saw noone threatening to report anyone, now keep your inflated sense of self worth to yourself.:jerkit: (First time using that smiley, felt great too.)
The forum has had for a while now a stick in the mud who will do his best to pi$$ us off and be the only dark spot on an otherwise amazing group of people.
