Compare the UF and FK2 for me

I’m in the same boat. It’s been tough to watch this preorder. I keep telling myself that I have never been a special operator and likely never will be.
I do love hiking/camping so the FK2 is probably the better fit for me. I’m pretty sure I’ll want at least two.
I almost caved halfway through typing this...
Same boat. And also ultimately decided to sit this one out. Very much looking forward to the FK2 and DEK1.

You’re one of the very good guys, among this great family of ours around here ODog. If you end up regretting your decision later on, I have a hunch that someone somewhere and somehow will step up to take care of you ;)

That’s good to hear!
This is a great group of people - somebody always steps up when asked.
I think CPK’s quality product has attracted a quality crowd. I couldn’t be happier with the money I’ve spent here or the time. Every knife I’ve bought goes in the “keeper” column after its first use. They have always exceeded my expectations. I sold a few other camp knives I had because... well, I have a HDFK.
I’ve unloaded a bunch of my folders over the past year because I, almost exclusively, carry my EDC2.
I’m sure the UF will be an exceptional knife as well.

During the last section hike me and the wife did on the AT, we were sitting on the edge of the trail having a snack. This section of trail was on a ridge so it drops down on both sides. We could hear something moving fairly quickly up one side of the ridge. Something, at least, dog size. But dogs aren’t allowed in the Smokey mountain section of the trail. My wife, being smarter than me, started clapping to let whatever it was know we were there. Right about then, less than ten yards in front of us, a juvenile black bear pops across the trail and down the other side of the ridge.
Maybe I do need a stabby knife...

I would take Andy's advice and use a 12 guage. :D

I think that DEK1 will fill the space between FK2 and UF. Although it's not quite as large, it's designed to be multi purpose and easy to carry, but skewed toward the personal weapon end of the spectrum slightly.

One more unabashed and unapologetic push. There's no embarrassment / quitting in Matty when it comes to shilling for a very worthy cause KNOIFFFE :D :p

UF-fall:

Slightly off-topic, but anyone have handy a side-by-side photo of the current UF and original 6" fighter? Are they the same other than the heat treat?

The original was .165" thick but the new one is .188". The primary grind angle, weight and balance are unchanged due to magic. The plunge is now a non-linear geometry rather than a constant radius which avoids the instantaneous change in rate of curvature at the plunge, the geometry is now smoothed out a little with a C2 curvature continuous blend. There is now jimping on the thumb ramp and chamfers and some changes under the scales. They're run a tad harder and the microstructure is a little different with both eta carbide and some plate martensite in the mix now. The cutting geometry and handle are pretty much unchanged so no one would ever feel a difference in use, though the edge retention and comfort (from chamfers) are enhanced. The step overs on the scales are a little finer (for comfort) and we used a scallop on most of the scale (best tactile feel with good grip) with a fine diamond at the rear.

I doubt many people would ever notice any difference.

Hey Nolan, here are the photos which you had requested on my older style UF-3V. In today's money, this would be the basic UF + hand satin finish + sharpened top of the tip / spine by about an inch. The handles I believe are quilt diamond pattern black G10.

I tried to get the best photos I could indoors and hoping that this helps in your decision and perhaps others who like any of these combos which are currently being offered:

Thanks, Mat! Much appreciated. I pulled the trigger on the sharpened tip; taking everything I have not to order two. As the saying goes: 1 is none, 2 is 1
