Compare the UF and FK2 for me

The original was .165" thick but the new one is .188". The primary grind angle, weight and balance are unchanged due to magic. The plunge is now a non-linear geometry rather than a constant radius which avoids the instantaneous change in rate of curvature at the plunge, the geometry is now smoothed out a little with a C2 curvature continuous blend. There is now jimping on the thumb ramp and chamfers and some changes under the scales. They're run a tad harder and the microstructure is a little different with both eta carbide and some plate martensite in the mix now. The cutting geometry and handle are pretty much unchanged so no one would ever feel a difference in use, though the edge retention and comfort (from chamfers) are enhanced. The step overs on the scales are a little finer (for comfort) and we used a scallop on most of the scale (best tactile feel with good grip) with a fine diamond at the rear.

I doubt many people would ever notice any difference.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Funds are always tight, but this has been one of my favorite field utility knives (in my pack along with the LC and folders in my pocket). The blade profile is what really makes it stand out. I've been wanting a 2nd (all important tools need backups :) ) and the chance to get one in my favorite handle material (terotuff) and at a very reasonable price, could not in the end pass up the pre-order. Thanks much for doing that!

Hey Nolan, here are the photos which you had requested on my older style UF-3V. In today's money, this would be the basic UF + hand satin finish + sharpened top of the tip / spine by about an inch. The handles I believe are quilt diamond pattern black G10.

I tried to get the best photos I could indoors and hoping that this helps in your decision and perhaps others who like any of these combos which are currently being offered:

To my eye, this tip grind is the most aesthetically pleasing. It compliments the satin finish with beautiful, flowing layers of lines. Understated awesomeness. Thanks for sharing.
