Compared to traditionals, do you own many modern knives?

I have very few modern tactical folders anymore. I love to collect inexpensive vintage slipjoints so I have a lot more of these than modern EDC knives. The newer traditional knives I have are mostly SAKs, Opinels that are current production. 20+ to 1 ratio I guess.

I have 3 modern knives and probably around 20 traditionals.

I like modern knives but a lot of them are just too dang big and they almost always scare non-knife people.

Traded my last modern knife away about 3 weeks ago. It's all slippies now! Wouldn't mind to have a decent modern knife again some day, but it'd have to be a CRKT M-4 or some similar, quasi-traditional beast.

I've almost fully transitioned to traditionals. Selling my modern folders allowed me to purchase most of my traditional collection. Things really changed when I picked up a Case mini copperlock at cabelas. Then I ordered my first GEC...... I only have two or three modern folders left.

I have dozens of traditionals because I am so old that modern knives were not around when I started collecting. Now I prefer modern knives and have 10X as many as traditionals. I have at least a hundred kitchen knives, but I don't know where they drop into the classification system.

Started off as a kid with just traditionals- a generic tiny stockman, two small lockbacks, a couple knock off SAKs, an unidentified black stiletto, and an unfortunately MIA mother of pearl penknife handed down from my grandpa. In 2000 or so I was gifted my first modern folder, a double blade kerambit, then bought my self a few more less evil looking one handers over the years. In the past year or two a desire for "non-scary" and "non-weaponlike" started me with a slow but steady evolution to traditional pocketknives. Right now I have 5 modern folders and 20 or so traditional. And 2 leathermans wherever they fit in. Wow I actually hadn't thought of how many I really had, maybe my girlfriend is right that I "have enough" (never!)

Do you own alot of modern knives also or do you prefer traditionals alot more?

I have a fair number of modern one-handers.
I have a greater number of traditionals.

I often carry one of each.

What Frank and Gary said!

Not quite for me. I carry one modern one hander but I always have at least two traditionals in my pockets. A stockman or whittler in one and a trapper or scout knife in the other.

Mmm. I've still got about 4x as many modern as traditional, but I'm not very interested in acquiring more moderns at this point. I still love Spyderco, but I don't see myself purchasing any more for a bit more.

Still, if I have a day of serious work planned, I will always grab a modern folder for convenience. Rare lately, but still.

Twenty years ago, I used to review knives proffessionally, so I still have a few from that period, and one or two gifted to me since. Some of them are quite sought after, and I'd sell them off if I wasn't so lazy! Can't remember the last time I carried a modern folder.

I used to have a lot of tactical folders. Now, the majority of my knives are fixed blade and most of those are traditional in style.

No moderns for long time now, all sold or been given away. I just don't like them too heavy and too chunky for me.
