Compared to traditionals, do you own many modern knives?

Ever since finding this forum I've gotten more traditionals than modern folders. I purchase one from time to time, but it's something like 5 to 1 traditional.
I usually carry one small traditional to work, after work it's usually one modern, one traditional plus a SAK on my belt.

Aside from a Leatherman residing in my car, and one modern folder (which is hidden somewhere), I only have traditional knives (not many of those either).
Oh, and one fixed blade which is neither traditional nor modern to me...or maybe it's both :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Not a big collection but a leatherman, 1 modern in a buck, and 4 traditional. One of them is always in my pocket and gets used.
I'd like to get another modern folder, and one solid fixed but as far as traditional goes, gec makes it hard not to keep looking.

Let's keep the pictures of non-traditional knives out of the thread, please. I'll close it if I see anymore.

Considering only pocket knives, I have more than twice as many GEC #48s than I do modern one hand opening knives. I, as some of you may be aware, do have more knives than the #48s as well :) When it comes to fixed blades though, I have some traditional fixed blades but I have more modern versions. The ones I do have still have classic lines (imho) though.

I guess that one day, after I checkout, modern knives will be traditional,

but until that day,

What Frank, Gary and Jeff said.

I have been buying "traditional" knives for 40+ years. Only "modern" knives for 15+ years. Way more traditionals in my collection. I guess I just like tradition, like wood and blued steel for my firearms.

After a quick glance, it looks to me that I have 50/50. Thinking about my tastes and daily carry habits, those numbers sound just about right.

I probably have 6 - 7 modern folders that just can't be beat for my line of work. They get all the nasty jobs, and at the end of the day they are cleaned with charcoal lighter fluid and a brass brush if needed. I don't want tar, sealants, and oil based paints on my traditionals. I don't want to damage them, either. It is hard to damage G10 or FRN handles or mildly hard stainless blades.

That being said, I also carry both every day. But I have about 60+ traditionals to choose from, so that makes it a lot more fun.

I only have 3 moderns, one I carry every day along with a traditional & one is a junker Gerber I used to use at work before getting a JK Friction Folder & the third just sits in the folder drawer waiting to be sold.
I only carry the modern one hand opener for emergency use so luckily it doesn't get used as much as the traditional.

I started my meager collection with titanium framelocks of which I now have three, and now I have 5 traditionals with the only new knives i'm planning to acquire being traditionals.

I have 3 Moderns. I like them find them useful, I use them but I see absolutely no likelihood of buying any more.

I have rather more than 3 Traditionals.....:D but I see absolutely no likelihood of restraining myself from buying more.

It's an aesthetics thing.

I have far more Traditional knives than Modern. When I think about how many knives I own, I am shocked, but the number still pales in comparison to many here.

I'm not really sure what qualifies as a modern knife. I suspect that I have only two that would qualify as modern and something around 150 that would be considered traditional.

A while back I returned to Traditional knives and actually sold most of my "modern" folders. Right now I think I have about 7 of them. That compared to the 30-40 Traditionals I have. Steven

I have 5 modern folders and 70 to 80 traditional. I like them all.

I have four different Leatherman multis (Wave, Juice, Squirt and Micra), and a Bucklite 422 and a Gerber LST that I got for a song on that big auction site. Otherwise, all my knives are traditionals.
