Comparing two recently arrived jacks: Schrade Walden 236 and Northfield 66

Ouch... that´s sad. Sorry to see this :(

Well, maybe it was really stressed during time and the steel got weaker. I hope, you didn´t get hurt...

:( sorry Doug.

Ouch! Rare occurrence, you are now a member of an exclusive club . . . . .errrr, welcome!

I tapped a blade on an old Remington muskrat, hoping to crink it, but instead - "ping"! A sinking feeling. Sorry for your loss!

Thanks fellas. I don't know whether to leave it as is, have it reworked into a single blade, or try to find a replacement secondary. For now it sits staring at me, wondering why I was so cruel.

I take that last statement back. It appears the pen blade was stressed. I just opened it to see if it was straight, and it snapped right in two.

My heart literally sank when I read that statement I almost didn't scroll to see the picture, sorry that is a shame.

Do people offer the service of replacing blades on slipjoints? If so I would say do it for sure! Thas a great looking knife!

Its still a good looking jack Doug. I hope you find someone to make it whole again.

Doug that's very strange. Lots of older knives have a blade that has been bent towards the end, but so far i've never had one break. I have never thought that it could happen just by opening it.
It is a nice clean break that is square to the blade. Turn it into a screwdriver blade. That's often useful on a pocket knife, so it will still be a good EDC. And now you get to search for another Schrade-Walden 236. See if you can find one with bone handles.

Doug, so sorry to hear that my friend---I carried it for years with no issues what so ever:o That has to be the fluke of flukes and I feel terrible it happened to you.

Paul

Paul, I sure hope you didn't read my comment about the blade being stressed as pointing to something you did to the knife. I certainly did not mean that at all. I simply meant that old things will eventually break. The deal we struck that brought the 236 to me was way more than fair, in fact I feel like I may owe you more than the 6207 you received considering all that you sent me.

I am only disappointed in that my grabbing of the blade caused it to snap. Not at all disappointed in our trade, or in what I still have in this gorgeous Schrade jack knife.

If I choose to replace the secondary, I would love to find a sheepsfoot like I have in my 832 and 834 stockmen. Anyone know where I should go to look for one?

Herman Williams who was the Schrade person for custom type work is still working on Schrades now in his home workshop.
I'm sure he would put a replacement blade in for you and even change out the Delrin handles for Peachseed bone ones.
It would be all real Schrade work.

Doug, it was not taken in a bad way at all my friend---in the PM we traded I mentioned how it felt like selling a used car to a friend and then it needs repair work. One just wishes it would not happen to someone you like so much. Unfortunate thing for sure but hope a great result comes of this.
