completely deactivate the possibility of receiving Friend Requests?

Does anyone actually even use the friends feature? I'm thinking about disabling it just to see what happens.

It is sort of handy to keep track of members you actually like and think of as friends. Some members here are not as active as other, but remain relevant in one way or another. :)

Same reason here. It's a list of the "good guys."

I very much appreciate having it available.

But here and on other social media I'm not a "friend accumulator." I don't get that...I have FB friends with thousands of friends....I am a FB fan and longtime user, and float around 100.

I hate unsolicited friend requests anywhere. Repeated requests even more so. And if I got repeated requests from someone who allowed no way to respond to him? If there was nothing that could be done to stop that abuse of the system? I might question if I wanted to stay at a site and put up with that nonsense.

That^, I also use mine to keep track of who to harass,, I mean to start happy birthday threads in community for.

I use it to quickly find the names and pm some people I am mates with and it is useful to see what's going on in areas of the forum they're interested in that I might be interested in. Why disable it? Is it causing more issues than this?

I just add people if they send a thing and never look at it otherwise. If it has an actual function, I'm not aware of it.

Been thinking about clearing mine out completely because of the "My Activity" thing (more for their sake than mine). W&C, Cove, and PA posts display in the profile of every person on the list, so someone's profile page could look like a Carlin bit or political debate simply because of who's on the list. Would save some headaches if there was at least a way to turn that off.

I use the friends function just as Haze and marcinek stated. It makes it easy to see what people I value are saying.

That is the reason I decline some requests, I don't want it on my profile page. I do like to keep up with a few members, though, like has been said.

Should I feel rejected or slighted that the serial "Friend Requester" hasn't requested me ?? I mean what's wrong with me ? ;)

Don't feel bad, he's never sent me one either.

Tested something for anyone curious. When going to the "Friends and Contacts" section in settings, each name has a check mark box for "Friend" and another for "Contact". I noticed that one person had removed me as a friend (3 guesses, folks), but was still listed as a contact. Didn't recall his posts showing up in "My Activity", so removed just the "Friend" check on another person and their posts disappeared as well, but they remained in the "Contacts" list. Apparently you can keep a list of contacts without seeing each others posts in the profiles then.

Sorry, Nickles, you were at the top and convenient. Box re-ticked. :p

Ive got 140 "friends". With so mny, its easier to search for a name than to find it in that list.

You've outed yourself.
Turdo will read this and you'll get a friend request PDQ. :p
Congrats ! :D

If someone is added to your ignore list, will that prevent their friend request from showing up?

It seems too. I have that special snowflake on ignore and his friend requests popup and then disappear immediately.
I still do get the email notifications.

Let me know, you can email me back if anything further action is needed. I'll be happy to help.
thanks :)

I don't think it's been mentioned, but you can send messages to any member using Visitor Messages unless they have it turned off. Click on their name and go to their profile, then click the "Visitor Messages" tab (right there with Feedback, About Me , ect).
he seems to have been able to disable that. You can check yourself, no visitor messages possible. Or maybe, not for me? May it be that only gold members can leave visitor messages to gold members? It sounds a bit "adult friend finder" to me, you know, you have to pay to message a girl :)
Not sure how the gold and platinum thing works here.

I have just added him to the ignore just to see what happens, although as said for me this thread was more of a general thing, not strictly related to him.
I'll let you know if it does not work. Or, we can do other experiments like bld522 and rycen just did. I can add you to ignore and you can then request my friendship. Should we? It sounds perverted but it kind of makes sense.

if possible it would be nice to give the option to be unfriendable.
So people can decide. Apparently some people like the option, other ones don't.
I myself am in a Phase of avoiding all social media. So, I am not interested in that function and as said I would disable it if given the chance, so to avoid misunderstandings.

Yeah, looks like he turned it off in his settings.

Anyone can send VMs to anyone else as long as they haven't turned it off. No paid membership needed on that.

Thanks man. Stinks that the emails still go through.

Looks like you were responding to me, so let's give it a try Sir Joe. Post here when you have added me to your ignore list. I will then send you a friend request and you can post back the results
