compression lock

My yojimbo is solid but from time to time I have a hard time closing it, I have to wiggle the blade once the lock is compressed to push it past the lock.

My Yo was the same way for a while. It may be the pivot area is clogged with debris. I completely disassembled mine and gave it a thorough cleaning with hot water and handsoap, now it's as good as new. Works great. Even the blade centering came back. Be very careful not to strip any screws or mess up the lanyard hole area, which is very snug. I did not remove the lanyard hole on mine.

ZERO blade play on either my ATR or the Superhawk. Not even .001" of play. None.
Love this lock.:)

My native's lock up is very nice, I'm very happy with the compression lock. Though my favorite is still the axis.

My para has the most play out of: para, ate, superhawk, and salsa. Although even the para's play is barely noticable...I chalked it up to the para seeing more use.

And your definition of a "real fan" is that one can not criticise?

In what country does one learn English by only focusing on a fraction of the whole statement to derive meaning? BTW I notice you are pretty stingy on the praise, does that make you a super fan?

I would also like to see more models with the compression lock, especially in the "little big knife" category. I like the size, ergos and price of the "S" model but I think the cutouts on the blade were overdone. It is a wonderfully light knife but I'd prefer more material near the cutting edge. (btw, the one I tried locked up nice and tight)
I'm now seriously considering the para-military as a means to satisfy my compression lock craving.

Have had 4 ATR's - all had perfect lock up -neither vertical or s2s play.
Have owned 3 - Lil'T's - one was very used and had a sticky lock in terms of being a little tough to un-lock - none had any vertical or s2s play.
I don't flip any of my folders ( regardless of who made them) - seems abusive and un-necessary .
I don't care much about the looks of my knives - but lock up is something that matters to me -can't say I've ever put years of use into a compression lock ( the only real test) - but my limited experience is these things are damm solid.

The para will do in a pinch, but someone here is bound to recommend you dig up a Salsa and a Yojimbo on the 'bay. ;)

What about a comp. lock Urban?

Not that it's impossible, but a compression lock on the Urban would require liners, and the slipjoints like the UKPK and Urban are known for their linerless-ness.

We've got an updated Lil' Temperance design that we thought about making a run with the Superhawk lock. Maybe G-10 & VG-10, made in Seki.

I'm very glad to hear that. The Lil' Temperance has always been one of my favorite knives and I still carry mine. I've often thought it would be a good design to update. Can't wait to hear more details.

My D2 Para is rock solid it's just as solid as any of my other knives and it's sweetly awesome.

I love my comp locked folders that I've owned (ATR, Yojimbo, S) and have not had any play with them. I find my backlock folders are more play prone, with my CF Caly 3 being the worse, with about 1-2mm play at the tip. Hasn't knocked it out of my top 5 either ;)

The comp lock is my favorite lock design. It has the ease of cleaning of a liner lock, the strength and smoothness of an Axis/BB lock, and the Spyderconess of the backlock. My favorite thing about it is that you can depress the lock and flip it closed like an Axis, which is very handy when you need to make a quick cut in a public space without drawing attention.

I would love to see this lock on more knives, ideally as an integral frame lock ala ATR. Perhaps a integral slab Para or Yojimbo?

I was thinking an Urban-sized knife with a comp. lock.

I think the Superhawk lock works a bit better than older versions like in the old Lil Temp.

As an aside I love to see different blades in the Superhawk handle, leaf or drop point and wharnie especially. The Superhawk handle is just too good to be only used/lost on a specialty blade like a hawk.

Thanx Jill. Good thread, We like the feedback.

The CL is one of my favorite locks as well, but a "bugger" to make.

sal

No play in either my Lil T (original model with leaf blade) or Para (also original version). I carry and use the Para a lot and use it hard. I have had to tighten the torx screw occasionally but absolutely no problems with construction. These 2 along with my D4 are my all-time favorite folders.

Sal, make that updated Lil T and we will buy it. OK, I will buy one, but I bet it will be a hit. G10 and VG10 are just fine.

What's better/different about the Superhawk lock? Any close ups that show that locks design/function?
