compression lock

I think the Superhawk lock works a bit better than older versions like in the old Lil Temp.

As an aside I love to see different blades in the Superhawk handle, leaf or drop point and wharnie especially. The Superhawk handle is just too good to be only used/lost on a specialty blade like a hawk.

Ah the mix and match capabilities of Spyderco's. :D

Superhawk handle with a warnie blade.

Compression lock + UKPK/Caly3 handle with a nice leaf shaped FFG blade and CF handles

Ladybug Hawkbill

Ladybug with some G-10

H1 folder with G-10/H1 comp lock.

I'm sure that one, if not all, of the above are "in-the-works", I just wish we could see them right now. I remember Sal saying that they were sitting on a couple of designs until production capacity in Golden freed up a bit.

+1

A nice Persian style or drop point blade in the SH handle would be real nice :)

Hell yes!
Seconded, thirded and forthed!

The para will do in a pinch, but someone here is bound to recommend you dig up a Salsa and a Yojimbo on the 'bay. ;)

I think someone just did :). Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a PE Salsa.. at a reasonable price.. yet...

How does the Superhawk's lock differ from the older compression locks? Is it the same as the lock on the paramilitarys?

It....works better. :D

The older ones work fine, just sometimes they stick a bit during opening and closing. The one on the superhawk doesn't stick. It is something so minor most folks wouldn't notice. :)

I've seen many different Compression Locks. Mostly Para's, but I've owned a Lil' Temp and also 2 Yojimbo's.

I have had probably close to 30 knives that have compression locks pass through my hands. I have carried a Paramilitary for a long time. It has what I would call about a half a millimeter of vertical blade play. I mean it's difficult to even feel it and it's impossible to see with the naked eye. Now this is a knife that's been used. I would guess that about 95% of them I have seen and felt brand new have ZERO (0) play!

The Compression Lock is bad-ass and the very few of them that have any play are usually not even worth worrying about.

Use the crap out of them....it just may be the best lock on the planet.

Thanx for the positive comments on the Compresion lock.

We'd like to make more use of this lock and one of our Seki makers has learned the lock well.

We have a couple of compresson lock models in the design stage. More than likely smaller runs, G-10, VG-10, full flat. Lil' Temperance2 and a Superhawk handle with a more conventional blade. Probably black and Foliage reen scales.

My para, bought when they came out, has a tiny bit of BP which stops when the lock arms travels a little bit further to a final positive lock no BP position (totally irrelevant from a practical point of view but- at first- unpleasant).
The yojimbo and the superhawk lock positively with no BP, with the superhawk being the smoothest and most pleasant knife I have when it comes to opening and closing.
IMHO I like the compression lock a lot

Any chance of a superhawk handled wharencliff?

I think I would prefer to use a blade shape that is more commonly accepted. Warnie's have a strong, but small following. Probably more than hawkbills, but certainly less than leaf, drop-point, etc.

The handle and lock are exceptional on the Superhawk and I would like to use it for another blade shape in a G-10 scale.

The leaf shaped blade on the Lil' Temperance has always been my favorite blade design from Spyderco. I also love how well the blade shape and design integrates with the handle design, especially in the area of thumb placement. The only thing I would wish for is a more ambidextrous design.

This sounds great as I have always thought about getting a Superhawk because of the lock and handle but never could really warm up to the hawkbill blade

Bugger! Those darned masses and their leaf love. :grumpy:

:D No a leaf would look and cut well in the superhawk handle! Looking forward to seeing that one. :p
