Concealed Carry Gun Holsters - suggestions?

I wear a Don Hume IWB holster all the time. It is my favorite holster. I carry a Glock 22 or Glock 23 everywhere that law allows.

I have a Blackhawk Serpa CQC for my Sig P6.

I like the comfort, adjustability, and positive retention

I have a Crossbreed for my .38 snubby. It's good, and I wear it around 3-4 with my phone holster just forward of that. The leather sheet is nice and thin. I don't wear it all the time, so I can't speak for durability, but it was just the thing I was looking for. No problem with the Kydex shell scratching my black S&W 442.

I have a Comp Tac Minotaur for my Beretta 92FS, which I like a lot as well. The leather is thicker than the Crossbreed, and I expect it will be more durable. I'm a little thick around the middle and the Minotaur has a flap of leather that keeps the hammer from digging into my side if I bend that way, which is quite nice. Again, no scratches in the finish on my 92FS from the Kydex.

I don't carry constantly, so your mileage may vary considerably on the finish wear, but these holsters have worked for me.

MTAC for sure. Holsters are a personal preference thing and their comfort and utility vary a lot by where you want to carry on your belt and your body type, the type of clothing you wear, etc.

I have or had holsters from most all the major names and I have stuck with the MTAC. My philosophy on gear of any kind is "When I find something that does it better, I'll switch to that." I haven't found anything better and I would probably cringe at the money I've spent on holsters. I recently was looking for a good outside the waistband (OWB) holster. I shopped around and ordered some custom leather. Beautiful craftsmanship but even wearing that holster OWB was less comfortable than my MTACs.

For me the days of holsters where the versatility stops at "here is the holster, put it on your belt" are over. The MTAC can be adjusted to how YOU want to carry, so that is is most comfortable for you, so the correct amount of grip is exposed for your hands/draw stroke, and the big one, your preference of cant on the gun. Most holsters today come with a FBI-esque cant which is way more than I want.

All the same things can be said about the Supertuck and Mark Craighead is a fellow Missourian and a great guy who I've corresponded with a few times over the years. Very polite and helpful. The only thing I don't like about the Supertuck is the exposed muzzle of the gun. Hard on pants over time.

I've used a loooot of holsters and the MTAC is hands down the most user-adjustable and most comfortable.

I use a AIWB from Raven Concealment Systems. They also make IWB, As far as leather, Milt Sparks VM2 is one of the most comfortable holsters around.

What model and generation Glock is on the top right? I've never seen a sub-compact Glock with rails.

*Nevermind....looks like a Glock 30.

Yes sir, Glock 19, 30, 26 and a S&W 642. The "subcompact" is a little generous of Glock IMO since the dimensions are more similar to the G19. G30 is a very soft shooting .45 ACP.

i use the uncle mike neoprene holsters. thought they'd be crappy at first due to low price but they do just fine for me. lightweight and less bulk since i rarely have a coat in AZ. wife can't even tell when i'm carrying. kinda reminds me of the $15 machete and a small fixed is all you really need comment. this thing does the job just fine for me. never needed anything else after trying it.

I have a box full of holsters but have pretty much converted to CompTac across the board. I particularly like the Infidel and have been using it with both my full-size M&P40 as well as with my Glock 23 with outstanding results.

The Galco Triton is pretty much a flat-out copy of the Infidel (or vice versa)...

Isheldon - that is a sweet looking rig and a great pistol. I'm really surprised that we don't see more of the P245 around as it is an outstanding blaster and everyone that I know who has one refuses to part with it - must mean something...

I've got years of experience with this one. If you need to go "deep concealment" there simply isn't anything like a Crossbreed Supertuck for comfort and stability. I have the exact gun you're talking about and personally find it too big for IWB but it can be done, especially with the Crossbreed. I use a Galco Fletch for my 3.8 which is an OWB holster but with my shirt untucked it works awesome and is super comfortable. I researched this subject for months before getting these two holsters. I use my Crossbreed with a Taurus 709 slim 9mm, literally hardly know I'm wearing it. I use the Fletch for my XDm. It's just such a large gun, I find trying to IWB with it is just too much but I'm a tall skinny guy. Allot of bigger guys can handle larger guns IWB and do just fine. In any case, the Crossbreed is unmatched for comfort, you just might have to get a size or two larger pants for IWB carry with that sized gun. If you can get away with OWB get the Fletch. The Fletch is a high quality all leather holster, the Crossbreed is leather back with a Kydex front. These guys (Crossbreed) give you a life time warranty and will fix/replace anything you have issues with for free, Their customer service is unmatched, I know from experience. It's like they've been your best friend for life they way they treat you.

Love the minituck- check out this concealibility under a light T-shirt. Running a Sig p238 in the pictures

I carry a Glock 27 more than anything with a Comp Tac Infidel IWB. Love it. It's way more comfortable than you would expect out of kydex.

Here's a pic.

That looks like how my gun is going to - I'm going to add a Pierce Grip Extension so thanks a lot for that picture. It looks fairly unobstrusive.

lastdaze - the mr softee (vertical) and bare asset (canted) look like great deals to get something cheap to start with while I look more into a nice leather sheath. I think I'd prefer a leather sheath for OWB use opposed to IWB.

I'll also look into the blade-tech that was mentioned and the Milt Sparks for the future.

Another for the infidel - I am definitely putting that on a short list with one of the cheap high-noon for now.

Looked at some Galco's, glad to hear some good feedback - especially with guns slightly larger than mine. Most people are getting IWB holsters with two clips....I can understand for a larger gun but this one is fairly small....not as small as a g26 or S&W M&P 9c but close.

I've looked at kholster and am not sure about the whole circle of leather for IWB. Can they do a combat cut? My model would be the whole circle, not half apparently.

M-11 looks really nice, will put that on the list with Sparks for a long-term buy.

desantis intruder - I remember running across this. My gun is in between the 26 and 19 size-wise so I'll definitely give this a look for a hybrid leather/kydex holster. I think I found the website before, but when I just googled it I came up with lists of re-sellers. If I can't find the company site I'll PM you about it.

rgrizzle sheath looks nice for OWB wear. You wear around 3-5 I guess? I'll check them out.

Andrews Custom Leather looks nice. How does the leather work IWB? Does it absorb much moisture/sweat?

adaman - mtac looked good to me, glad to hear good things about it. Wasn't sure if the single vs double-clip was a big deal or not but I'm sure it helps with stability/weight point on your jeans/belt.

Have looked at the Uncle Mike line before - wouldn't mind having a couple $30 holsters and a couple $100-ish to wear depending on what I'm wearing/the weather.

Another comptac infidel/galco triton. They don't weigh down too much with one clip? I like the smaller design of those, but the MTAC interests me due to the adjustable cant.

drover - I'm a tall skinny guy also. You have a XDm 3.8" compact....you use the Galco Fletch, a leather OWB for it. You think it's too big for IWB carry? It isn't as small as a 26 or a M&P, but I think it shouldn't be a problem if I get a good holster.....the crossbreed/mtac style would help with some of the weight...don't you think?

You guys have given me tons of great ideas. I think I have whittled down my list going through everyone's posts - thanks for all of your tips. I'll prob. try a couple cheaper ones and either a mtac or crossbreed style to see how they work. I'd like to go IWB but will prob. go OWB in winter time.

Thanks! Tons of responses to sort through...been going over this thread for 20 minutes, haha!

Most of my IWB holsters are Comp-Tac. Generally CTAC, but if I was getting a new one I'd likely get a MTAC. I've been extremely happy with their stuff.

Dave Brown of Buy brown Holsters rigged me up this IWB holster to accommodate my full size XDM 9mm and streamlight. It conceals Great under a coat, it conceals decently under a sweatshirt and kind of poorly under a tshirt unless it's quite baggy. Still, it allows me to carry a full size fighting pistol most of the year, concealed. When It's just t shirt weather I generally carry a 1911 either in a Milt Sparks summer special or a crossbreed super tuck.

A lot of good suggestions. If leather I'll vouch for the Sparks VM II and the Executive. Personally I like kydex and carry either a Comp Tac or Blade Tech inside the waistband holsters.

If you haven't carried before, something that is just as important as the gun and holster is gettting a good belt. Way too many people scrimp on the belt and wonder why carrying isnt comfortable, concealable and drawing is so much problem.
