I was revisiting the topic of knives as backup weapons recently and discovered that Cold Steel seems to be a popular choice. There are some very creative setups here. I was also surprised to see how many guys chose the Brave Heart model.

I found this last rig very appealing. Anyone know who the maker is? I don't recognize it as a Survival Sheath Systems setup, but it definitely has Humelbaugh's look.

Please feel free to post images of your own here.

Has anybody gotten an aftermarket sheath set up for the Steel Tiger yet? I'm so not fond of the one that came with it.

I really like CS fixed blades for their easy-to-conceal character.

Of all those I own, the Push Daggers and the Desperado are reaaaly nice to wear and one is able to conceal them in so many different ways, positions and angles, adapting them to what you're carrying (bag, gun, camera, backpack...) that day.

I had the Kobun, and I really liked its sheath and concealability too. So slim and lightweight.

I've even carried the OSS comfortably, tucked at 1:00 IWB. Seems awkward, but is doable and I could even sit in the car without feeling discomfort. Problem was the handle, too long, and it printed.

Very nice, Peacent! I consider the Desperado a sleeper design that was way ahead of its time. I wish they'd bring it back into the lineup, perhaps with optional G-10 handle slabs this time.

I'm impressed that you carry an OSS! Here's another design that I found for those who prefer the big boys.

Sorry, I don't know who the maker is. For those who prefer Kydex/Concealex, Mike Sastre's work is top-notch, too.

I'm looking at getting a Safe Keeper III, and all these pics of that knife are not helping my wallet...

It's a crime to conceal those knives in Virginia, and it's a crime in to even Open Carry the dirks.

XHP steel, G-10 scales (or a pinned-on handle of G-10 in the original shape and size), and a choice of PE or serrated.

That'd do it for me, yeah

so sad they discontinued this marvelous knife, truly ahead of its time

not even the TDI comes close as far as forward-slanted knives goes

Cool thread. Makes me want to carry this guy more:

But hard for me to justify strapping on a fixed blade when I have this guy:

6" folding kukri with a lock that comes as close as possible to fixed blade strength.

Not a Cold Steel, but today I've decided to give open carry a try.

Apart from some sr¡trange looks, nothing happened. Some people didn't seem to notice it being in front of me, but I guess they just felt awkward

Sunrise River custom knives sheath, unless my eyes deceive me..

He makes all kinds of sheaths.

Also rehanddles and makes custom knives, if I remember correctly.

I could be wrong, but it looks like his work. Search sunrisecustomknives

Why not just throw on the plate carrier vest with molle and attach it. Might as well go full tactical gear setup..;)

I agree. Since the Desperado's demise, probably the closest I've seen to its footprint is the SLCC series.

But the Striders aren't close to the size of the Desperado, and they lack its finesse. They're just a BIT more money, too!

Looks like others agree with you, oxman.

Personally, if I'm going to rely solely on a folder, even a big boy like the Rajah, I'd rather have it in a rapid-deployment belt sheath, like some of these.

I know that some people, including Lynn Thompson, like the inside-the-waistband concealment for large folders, as demonstrated here in these photos from Oso Grande.

For me, this location is slow and awkward. Note the repositioning of the grip in the pictures above--another trait of this draw that I don't like. Admittedly, I haven't done a lot of practicing with it, and I have to acknowledge that it is an extremely discrete method of carry.

Interesting experiment, Peacent! I'm not sure what your laws are like there, but I'm guessing that your return to concealed carry will prove less disruptive to your lifestyle. Open carry here in the States, no matter how well accepted, still never fails to draw unwanted attention.

Thanks, Bigfattyt! I like to give credit where it's due, as well as supply future customers to the skilled makers whose work appears in these pictures.

Let's hope some guy at CS is listening and gives the Desperado a second try...

Now, I've found the most comfortable concealed carry Fixed Blades to be the Hissatsu from CRKT, the Aqua Salt and the CS blades mentioned here, but I got a big boy from Spyderco last month and really want to carry it, the Spyderco Rock Salt.

CAM01675_zpsgto40ykd.jpg

I just haven't found a way to do it comfortably.

CAM01688_zps3d0tvavz.jpg

While smaller than the hissatsu, OSS or others, it's much wider and broader, so it's much more difficult to conceal.

CAM01679_zpsh4fqepjs.jpg

Any ideas?

CAM01680_zpskllhikjk.jpg

Also, where can one find the "wave deployment" sheaths for the XL folders? I've searched everywhere but only found leather or kydex sheath without the automatic opening system.

Thanks much!

Mike makes the finest Kydex quick-draw sheaths I've ever seen - and he's an awesome guy too!
I can't recommend his work highly enough
A bunch of us here at CS have sheaths made by Mike
