Concerns About Survive! Business and Misleading Lead Time Estimates

I've never understood why the same knife in the bronzed edition draws about $600 second hand when a different coating is an automatic $1k. I love the faux verdigris on bronze, gives it some history. And it hits like a truck, just lacks the shock absorbtion of the Res-C handles.
Nice! It is a killer blade, heres a quick story on how I got mine.
It was the second day at Bladeshow, and I really had my heart set on a ASHBM, but no luck, none were offered.
I rushed the trough when they dropped the rope, and the guy next to me grabbed the black CGFBM,, I was drooling all over that thing!
Me "Wow,, that is killer,, nice grab! I wanted to get my first Battle Mistress here, its my first time at Blade"
"Really? Here man, its all yours, this is the one you need!"
A stand up dude, never learned his forum name, just his first name.

I do love the res-c choppers, its a dream, especially the regulator shape

Yours is all wrong. It's worth about $400 more because it's not bronze :P Let me know if you want to beat on a 1311. I'll miss it, but I think I'll survive :D
Ha! Thanks, I got to play with both of those 1311's, they are probably the best value to performance chopper out there IMO

I'm not generally attracted to Busse knives — there are exceptions though, and that knife in particular is crazy hot.

I am the opposite; I am usually very attracted to them. I have never owned one, but have come close to pulling the trigger a number of times.

Right now, I am SERIOUSLY considering the Lionsteel M5 with Sleipner steel or the Knife Research Legion SC. I am of the opinion that the GSO 4.1 and GSO 6 will not be built for a VERY long time, and see these knives as a very competitive substitute...

More on topic, no one from S!K has posted on BF (in this thread, sub form or anywhere on the site) since 10/9. While I get that Guy and Ellie might not like the direction this thread has taken, I think that they are doing themselves a disservice by ignoring the growing unrest that is now reaching even some of their most loyal customers.

On 10/5 Ellie said, "We have all of the GSO-4.7 Starter orders built and Guy will be sharpening those over the next few days. The remaining GSO-4.7 preorders will be getting worked on through next week." And yet, on the 11/4 email they say "Preorders are on schedule to ship out next week." Again, another deadline missed, another month working on the 4.7s. On 10/5 Ellie also said "I think you guys are going to be pretty happy by the start of November" and "...to just wait a couple more weeks before revisiting this conversation. By that time you should really start seeing some tangible results of those changes." Well, it is a week into November and not much has changed. The sad thing is, this is not surprising, and actually what I (and I suspect most folks) expected.

Maybe I have become too cynical. However, I keep on hearing about "changes" but don't see results. Come on, S!K. This is becoming ridiculous.

My 4.7 Starter arrived days after that post by Ellie, and shipping notices were mentioned by a LOT of people within a short time-frame after that, leading up to November...

Ellie hasn't been on because she's been busy helping in the shop (instead of here) and evidently was also sick this past week (according to Instagram update a few hours ago).

The new GSO-4.1s are already shipping, albeit NOT as a priority, they are evidently just being included with some 2.7 starter orders still going out, or something like that. 4.7s and 2.7s are the priority. I'm betting on receiving my 4.1 by Christmas  (not really expecting it, but hopeful for S!K)

In other news, Knife Research DID go out of business, they no longer exist and will not be available to warranty any knives, so take that into consideration. They are like Fehrman, i guess. But ALL of Moletta's excellent designs have been picked up by Lion Steel and either are already in production or will be eventually, count on it

Also, WOW. Just wow. (referring to some pages back) Bad weekend for Ellie to be sick. :(

EDIT: also, someone mentioned the possibility that the main troll was simply an alternate persona for another BF member, and I find that very credible.

FWIW, I have a 6" Gollik in Sleipner, and I've concluded that I really like Sleipner :)

Also: in that size range, the forthcoming CPK Survival knife might fit the bill too.

Options, options.

Source? Pretty please. I would hope they're aware of them, if you're insinuating criminal activity, post it up please.

I was simply referring to posts 510 and 522. Quite eyebrow raising (at least to me). These two posts seem to have been lost in first alchemy's path of destruction.

I noticed them too. I imagine if the author of them feels like elaborating further, he will. Meantime, I'm definitely keeping it in the back of my mind, and waiting to see what shakes out.

Another option might be the Mantis Sospes. I'm not sure of Mantis' reputation, but I believe these knives are built by LT Wright. I'm considering one.

I just ordered a m5 for a Christmas gift (no, not for myself). Looks pretty nice, the price is right, and Lion Steel seems like a class act.

If only there was a thread here for discussing other knives we like

I wonder if seeing this thread IS what made Ellie sick????

If the big batch of knives ready to ship that was shown on instagram is the new normal, maybe that's what will make November a good month. If the extra finishing and reworking really is all over maybe we'll see a lot more getting shipped each week. For those sending knives and those of us receiving them, I'd really really REALLY like this to be true. That doesn't directly address most of the concerns in this thread, but if things get moving in the right direction I think a lot of faith could be restored.

From the comments in the Instagram post before the one RCB2000 posted, regarding the 4.1
We've been shipping those out a few at a time but you'll be seeing those start to go out in larger batches very, very, soon

I don't know what very very soon means, but I'm pessimistically optimistic. :)

I think the thread's valuable too — I'm just wondering if it's possible to essentially delete the 10-ish pages of drivel that a certain someone provoked. It doesn't add to the discussion, and it's like an impenetrable wall that any new readers of the thread will be unlikely to get through to wherever the discussion actually resumes.

Or, a representative/mod from the company could address the issues raised in the thread and put the whole thing to bed.

Or, a representative/mod from the company could say "If you don't like our business model, please take your issues to our customer service or another subforum, this forum is for Survive fans to have fun and share their experiences with our product."

Its pretty simple to not have this continue. :o

I was interested in the M5 too but, after further research I have learned it is rather thick behind the edge(meaning lower cutting performance) and I have always been uncertain about Sleipner. I have read a few reviews and it seems like it has poor corrosion resistance(even when compared to D2) and isn't particularly durable for a tough use knife like the M5. Here is one review that describes it performance but, for the M7.

One day I would like to try one of Survive's knives but, for now, I have cancelled my orders and dont agree with the way they have been doing things. Their actions over the last year or so have made me question whether I even want to ever support their company again unfortunately.

Wasn't there was supposed to be a November surprise? But so far, the only new information I have seen is the Friday Statement talking about a side project working on Scandis and "exclusives". I didn't see any news of a sudden large shipment of knives, or increase in production etc. Trickling out other model knifes, 2.7.4.1 doesn't really count IMO as we have seen a single model (4.7) can be "shipping out in regular batches" for a year.
To be fair, November is not over so it's important for customers/fans here to update us all on anything that has actually changed. Has it? Have any of you gotten a 2nd, preorder, etc that you were not expecting ON time or ahead of time? I know I am still waiting on an "in stock" item I purchased back in September.
What is the definition of insanity again?

I am cautiously optimistic that the next two months will be good months in Survive! World.
