Condor 2013 line

Anybody know if any of those new machetes will have some distal taper? The crocodilian seems to be begging for it.

Nice! I might have to get me one of those new parangs, I was thinking of getting the back golok but i'm not so sure now.....

Ooohhhhh yeah. I am getting ready to click the mouse on a new machete. Thanks for making my decision even more difficult.

Well you may still be waiting a while before you can pick the new models up. Historically new Condor models don't start showing up until summer, and then there's so much pent-up demand that you'll have to be pretty sharp to snag the early releases. Things might be different this year, but only time will tell. :)

I just saw a quote from Joe, "First shipments went out last week." regarding the bushcraft parang.

Not too surprising on that one. It was designed to be quick to produce in addition to being a good tool in its own right. I imagine the Speed Machete won't be far behind.

yeah but $70 msrp! Holy crap!

They won't be that high. Basically every other knife in the catalog with the $70 msrp can be found at basically any vendor that stocks Condor for $50 or less. Hope 42Blades is right with the speed machete, that one's on my wishlist(I'd like the new parang too, but since I already got the village parang it's lower priority).

I know actual retail is way less than MSRP but the CS bushman line can be had for $25. What makes these twice as good?

Well, for one, Condor sheaths are made of amazing leather. I'm talking soft, great quality leather.

Still no word on distal taper? I know Imacasa puts it on their line, not sure if any of the Condor line have it. Some of these really thick blades seem to be calling for it though.

So I got the Condor Bushcraft Parang today, and I must say, it is M-A-R-V-E-L-O-U-S! (I got it at goinggear for those who are interested)

The knife is fairly thin, in between 1/8" thick and 3/16" thick and has a great forward weight to it. It's not too heavy, but still heavier than a standard machete like the Ontario 12"/imacasa machetes. I've had the Villager Parang before, and I think this knife is definite upgrade to it! The knife is overall a bit lighter and has a MUCH better balance. Best of all, the handle fits in the hand very comfortably and isn't so thick and round like the villager parang.

The sheath is nylon and has a plastic inner lining that protects the sheath when pulling the blade out (or vice versa). Frankly I prefer the leather sheaths, but this one pretty good for a nylon sheath. It's also got a pretty nice front pocket that has a button so you can open and close it as you wish.

The sharpness is working sharp, not razor but can do chopping work out of the box. I'll reprofile it to a 20 degree - per - side V edge though, like I do with all my knives.

Overall I absolutely recommend this knife and can't wait to try it out in the bush. 10/10!

Here is a comparison shot side by side with the Condor Boomslang:

Yup! As a general rule of thumb, if you see a lanyard hole on a polypropylene-handled model then the tang goes back at least that far, as the lanyard hole passes through the tang.

My money will be that the Matagi knife is better than the CS bushman.

I haven't been very happy with the SK5 or whatever the Bushman is now made with.
When it first came out it was either 1095/Carbon V or something that actually held and edge and was easily sharpened.
The more recent one's I've been able to put my hands on I didn't like as much.
I wish I kept my early version.

However, from what I have seen, heard, and experienced. Condor is going to beat the britches off of several competitors with this line of knives/machetes.

I just wish their Barong came with a more Barong like handle, maybe a handle like the speed bowie.

The more I see it, the more interested I get in that bushcraft parang. I wasn't even into parangs until about maybe a month ago, if that. It's be cool if they did a compact parang about the size of the one gerber just came out with.
