Well boy, I own 3 condor knife but I can get the edge to bite like 1075 should!
I own 1055, 1095 which take an extreme good edge.
Not with Condor's knive.....whatever I do, to make a sharp edge..want happens!
I'm beginning to doubt that Condor USE 1075 steel!!?
HT, problems?
#1 Japanese water stone 800, 1000, 6000, 10000= doesn't work!
#2 strop with green compound= doesn't work!

P/S
If you work for Condor or make money by support the company stay out

I have been having issues putting an edge on my Bushlore so at least I'm not the only one. I am more certain that it is user error (by me of course) more-so than the knife itself. I am considering having it convexed for me at this point.

I don't know...I can get razor sharp anything including iron without HT.
But not with those knive?
I'm planning to send to Richard out of curiosity, I want see if he can do a miracle with the Paper wheel.

Your leather looks knap side up?

Is the edge getting Sharp at any stage of the sharpening? You should have a Sharp edge after your first stone and increasing sharpness with each following stone. Is the edge producing a excessive wire or burr? Or none at all?

Many things could be happening and its more than likely related to sharpening technique, a bad HT is unlikely and would be very obvious.

No burr at all.:grumpy:

You probably didn't grind enough in the beginning.

Ya know I've been researching the condor knives lately because I was interested in buying a couple considering the steel and price......BUT, I've also been finding a lot of reviews of people with this particular issue and also how hard it is to put an initial quality edge on it from the factory ( I don't guess they come very sharp). Maybe user error, but this seems to be a common issue from what I've read myself, etc.

just do a quick google search and you'll find quite a bit of sharpening issues with condor knives.

Now I want one....:D

I re-set all the edge not only by using Japanese water stone, but also with different file.
Small file, micro file, diamond file......did not work neither!!

Can't say I agree with the use of a file but its a little late to talk you out of it ;)

I'd start back at your 800 stone and slowly grind until the bevel is uniform, a burr has been raised and refined, and the edge starts to feel Sharp. Continue in the same way with each following stone and do not progress until the scratch pattern has fully changed and the edge has increased in sharpness.

Danm....I don't use a Paper wheel like you do... a burr is out of question!

You can raise a burr just fine by hand, you just need to drop down to an aggressive enough stone to start out with, and work it until the burr starts to show. Some Sharpie on the edge will help track your progress and let you know when you have the bevel down to the edge.

If you really get into a bind and you're in the Pacific Northwest, I'd be glad to help you out, I've got an EP and a darn good belt grinder. :)

Maybe you can get the burr with dry stone....? I live in Japan...I will be glad to send to you....PM me on kurodrago@gmail.com

interesting. i just got the 2011 condor parang and i can't get it sharp enough to cut paper at all - dmt diamond stones, spyderco sharpmaker, or edgepro nothing worked even after spending an hour with each one! in the meantime i can get a cold steel kukri literally shaving sharp in 15 min...the same case with the gerber/bear grylls parang - can't hold an edge no matter what my sharpening method is.

side note: i bought all 3 for a chopper testing/review but i don't work for any knife company or dealer. i think it's a crappy heat treat.

I wonder how prevalent this problem is with condors in general. I am going to keep trying and ease up pressure with the stones. Oh and uhm, btw, how well does the that BG parang perform? I hate the cheesiness but the design looks fantastic. Sorry to get off topic....

I knew that wasn't only me. I was wondering how the hell the HT can compromise steel that much?

Dang, I'm in the US, that'd make shipping a real killer. If you run out of things to try, I'd be happy to give it a shot, though. Seems odd that they'd be THAT bad off! Dropped you an Email.

condor puts what seems to me to be a lacquer "sealer" on the edges of a lot of their knives i assume to protect them during transport - I had issues with sharpening my mini-bushlore until i got through that, then it started taking an edge just fine. (using a 600 grit diamond)
I also have a Thai Enep Machete that i took out and whacked on brush for a while before testing the edge, so no idea what it was like from the factory - but 5 minutes with the 600 grit diamond stone followed by a minute on a large smooth butcher steel and it took hair off my arm with no effort.

I'll have to do some before-and-after photos when they get here. This should be a fun challenge, I'm starting to appreciate convex edges more and more as I go along.
