Condor kukri vs Cold Steel Kukri

They have the same blade. The Lite just has the super cool micarta handle. If you want a sheath for it, though, get the one for the Condor. It will fit the Lite perfectly. :)

Thanks 42! Didn't know the ESEE came naked..hmm

Jeff himself has said from the beginning that the sheath they have made for it is a POS...more of a blade cover. I disagree with him, as the construction is sturdy--it just has ZERO retention. They could fix that by adding about 2" of length to it so it swallows the top of the handle, but they haven't made that change.

No problem. I just hope they fix their provided sheath soon. It'd be super simple to do, from a production standpoint.

Is the price i would pay for the knife and sheath. (about 50 bucks) worth it compared to the competition at this price point.

I would have swore I saw the guys on Discovery's "Dual Survival" using the ESEE Machete in the rain forest and that thing was sharp with a lot of "design muscle" and taking down limbs, small trees - about 7 to 8 inches in diameter with a few well placed cuts.

Sorry of topic - for the money I like the CS Magnum kukri machete with a sharp toothy edge (if you get a peice of steel that's flat & uniform) better than the 18 incher. I have 1, 18" that has a big gob of extra steel right on the side of the blade. Looks like a topographical map. :D

Yeah I saw that episode too and it was the esee. That thing sure bites deep. I was reading about it a while back and it dosent even come sharpened. If your going to charge 60 bucks for a machete i would think you would have the decency to sharpen it!!!!

Just get the 11 dollar alternative... the EcoSurvivor. you're paying 50 for a survivasexual brand name engraved on the blade and some fancy dancy grips.

Micarta grips compared to plastic, 5" more steel and an iron clad guarantee.

Does the Eco-Survivor come super sharp or something? I see they use the same bade steel.

42 blades said the Condor has a superior sheath but the blade sites I'm looking at don't mention a sheath included with either one - plus how could an 18" Condor sheath fit a 23" ESEE machete?

FYI the esee is 23 inches overall and has an 18 inch blade. :D

thats what I said. Your paying more than 50 dollars extra for a name and micarta grips

More like less than $45 - ESSE Lite Machete without sheath can be bought for $55. The Micarta scales would be worth that much to many people. I have seen Micarta scales for sale separately for the Becker BK-7 & BK-9 and I think that they were dearer than $45.

The Condor sheath is sold separately, the ESSE is available with or without sheath. You can buy the ESEE Lite Machete with a sheath or buy it without and buy a Condor sheath (~$25) depending on whether you are happy to pay more for the better sheath.

Condor vs ESEE - essentially it comes down to whether you want the Micarta scales, some ESEE owners have said that it is the one thing the Condors really needed to be great machetes and they think it is totally worth the extra cost.

Advertising! Gets me every time! :grumpy: How bout the sharpness on that Eco-Survivor?

I have read that the Eco-Survivor comes sharp and also that the ESEE Lite Machete comes sharp. Of course you can always sharpen either to whatever standard you like.

My favourite knife supplier sells the ESEE for $11 less for the no sheath option and sells the Condor sheath for ~$18 - that provides the option of paying $7 extra for the better sheath. The ESSE is dearer than the Condor but I still want to buy one - hours of use without blisters would be pretty nice.
