Condor kukri vs Cold Steel Kukri

I have not used a Condor machete, which I shall remedy soon enough, but I have 3 Cold Steel machetes, and all surpass my expectations. The will take and hold a sharp edge, they are nearly indestructable, and they still sharpen with a file, though I use a belt sander. I have tested my Barong machete thoroughly and am very impressed with it, especially for the $8 it cost, with sheath.

The barong was one of Cold Steel's Chinese-made machetes (which I actually preferred over the South African ones as a whole) but they are no longer in production since the factory in China burned to the ground. :(

Oh, and Condor/Imacasa makes the best machetes around--in my book at least. :D

You like the Condor/Imacasa machetes better than the ESEE - price notwithstanding?

The ESEE Lite Machete is a Condor/Imacasa. ESEE just modifies them on a production basis. At least that's how I look at it since Imacasa makes the blades for ESEE. :D:thumbup:

Hey thanks for that info. It's amazing what you can find out from asking a question! :D

I want one which will handle light brush and small tree chopping.

There's so many of these darn things, it's hard to tell without buying a bunch of them and trying them out. I'm probably looking at a machete like this http://www.machetespecialists.com/coetdabuma18.html

I've got a CS Magnum Kukri machete. I was disappointed that it came unsharpened. The plastic handle chewed up my hand real bad. I like it now that I put on edge on it with a belt sander, sanded the crap out of the handle, and cord wrapped it, but that was a lot of work. Also the sheath is a piece of junk. I think I will make a cardboard and duct tape sheath.

Go with the Condor all the way. Actually now that you mention it I may just go buy one right now...dammit Bladeforums! ;)

Let us know which Condor you get. I saw a bunch of them - unless we're only talking kukri machetes. :)
