Posted an "I'll take it" followed by an immediate email to this guy exactly as instructed in his thread. I was the first poster. I was told someone had emailed him without a thread post and they were first. That's his prerogative and if that's how he wants to conduct deals, so be it. It is my prerogative to inform people that he does not follow his own thread rules and to tell people to make sure they have that purchase locked in before this guy sells out from under them. Here is the thread. He stated a guy claimed it through email but I was the first in thread as per his instructions. As he put it my claim should have taken precedence over all other discussions. I don't normally give people a bad review but this was just shady business.

RemyKaze , I reviewed the for sale thread and I did not see that Gastonian required a post in the sales thread but rather " First unequivocal “I’ll take it” followed by a prompt email for PayPal instructions buys the knife and trumps any other discussions." , unless this was edited I do not believe he violated his own rules.

I am not trying to be argumentative nor do I have a dog in the fight, just my view based on what is available.

Like he said ^ BUT my read of the text in bold (the text in question) leads me to concur with the OP - RemyKaze.

My 2¢

The instructions don't say where the "I take it" has to come from.

Did you inform gastonian gastonian of this thread?
Yup. He should know in case he wants to explain this. The instructions don't say a post in the thread is needed but I do believe it is implied. Oh well. Not sure this would stop me from trying to go for something he had that I wanted. Things happen. He has the right to sell to who ever for whatever reason. You have the right to not deal with him in the future and move along.

I just don't understand why some people on this forum, feel the need to start a negative thread over the most trivial of reasons. Wow- so you missed out on a knife.

With all due respect, RK, just find another knife to buy!

Regardless of whatever I post in my sales threads: I'll sell/do business with whomever I choose to- period!

I agree it is his choice who he sells to. It is the same when I sell a knife. But if I post rules that I want buyers to follow, I stick by them. I have personally started requiring a post in the thread to validate claims via timestamp. I'm not worked up about it. I'll find the knife I want elsewhere. I'm just saying that people should either be more specific about their rules or simply not post any. I am also free to express my opinion the same way he is free to outright deny a sale to anyone.

Hey, Man. I agree with what you're saying, but I'd appreciate it if you kept pictures like that in Whine & Cheese. Thanks.

Were I to place a "for sale" ad, my only "rule" would be G&S only. Otherwise, I would simply say "I'll let you know when the item is no longer available." I'm not obliged to sell to anyone in particular, and no one has a right to be the buyer. Simple as that.

It happens
Its happened to me and in my selling
The buyer doesnt FOLLOW Simple directions and they get pissed
off I sell to the person that followed directions
His post stated ""CLAIMING IT"" Smoke signal--Text--whatever
the person to claim it and commit--Gets first crack...
Also my opinion..
Welcome to BF and how things are handled--Perhaps not
the way we feel they should be..But its the nature of the beast..
Lessons learned....

Hey everyone,

I understand that there was a misunderstanding of the rules that I made in my sales thread. My intent was that the rules would make for a smoother transaction, but unfortunately that did not happen this time.

A few minutes after I posted the knife for sale I received an email from another member stating that he would take the knife. I then marked the knife as SPF. Later I recieved an email from the OP and let him know that another member had already agreed to buy the knife.

It is clear that from now on I will need to add to my sales that I reserve the right to sell the knife to whomever I see fit as a disclaimer. I will still go by whoever says they will take it first however, I hope that this will solve the problem in the future.

Thanks
Gaston

No you don't; you did absolutely nothing wrong here, Gaston. You're good to go in my book!:thumbsup:

I don't have a clue how many knives I've missed out on during my tenure here...a hundred...two hundred? Regardless, whatever the circumstances were with these seller's, I just moved on and didn't look in the rear view mirror.

Well agreed. Shit happens. Get over it
I lay out my terms
Clearly and Precisely
I sell on my terms and sell to whom I choose to
I am by no means discounting the issue at hand
I "Choose to Sell To Whom I Wish"
I dont explain my choices to anyone

Often times an offer or a committed party reaches
Out privately. It happens and feelings get hurt
Get over it and move on..Truthfully..not sure if it
was in need of to posted in here??

My 2cents
Perhaps a private conversation with the seller or
consulting a Moderator might have been a better choice

Seems OP is a little salty over missing a knife. I know the feeling, I missed out on two Kizer Feists in one week, the salt was real... But I moved on, and so should OP. Requiring a forum post for timestamp is erroneous... Emails have timestamps, so such a rule would exist only to prevent any sore feelings on those who miss out, such as in this case.

If all potential buyers would simply note the exact time they decided they wanted the knife and responded in kind in sharpie on their foreheads and then take a cell pic with timestamp so much of this could be avoided. That way pics taken for any other reason and tire kickers could be weeded out.

Ah well, I emailed him first and he ignored me, so I posted here. If someone is good to go I will acknowledge that publicly. If I have a negative interaction with them, same thing. It's his right to sell to who he wants. It's my right to lay out what happened and why it left a bitter taste. I'm not mad about it, just frustrated that I followed the posted rules and got knocked down by an unseen party. When someone buys my knife, even behind the scenes, I change the thread to reflect that.
