BTW: If there are any missing, please let me know.

As I've said many times, I'm very partial to Kershaw's knives, but I also like Spydercos, Benchmades, Bucks, Opinels, Case, Western, etc. Just because I like one brand doesn't mean I can't like many others, too. If I wasn't an knifenut, I wouldn't be hanging out here.

For some reason all of my Kershaw knives end up rusting. I store it in the same place with my Spydercos, but they have no problems.

My experience has been the opposite, but honestly I treat FRN knives dirty...I beat them silly. Having swam in salt and pool water with both S30V and ZDP-189 from both Kershaw and Spyderco, I've had more issues with Spydies. Their ZDP pits, which makes no sense to me (just an observation and curiosity). That being said, I've seen the 13C28 from Kershaw rust for my brother much more than me...I wonder if it's something with the acidity of our sweat. The ATS-34 from Kershaw stains while the ATS-34 from Benchmade rusts...and I couldn't ever get the same from Camillus to do either.

Steel is interesting stuff. :)

No not really. Read again: Telling people they dont know anything if they dont crown Kershaw king is force feeding. Whether it be Spyderco, Benchmade, or Kershaw it comes down to personal preferance. I personally believe quality > quantity. I agree Kershaw is a much bigger company than Spyderco and Spyderco is a more specialised company. Sal has even said so himself. That doesnt mean Kershaw is a superior company. I mean Gerber is bigger than Spyderco but does that mean they are better? Hell no.

I'm talking volume and cash. That determines who is the biggest in BUSINESS.

Do you know anything about business kid?

Asking price or selling price? I paid $125 for the one I owned and I sold it for less than I paid, all of this within the last 2-3 years.

i never said it wasn't a quality knife...but it wasn't a winning investment for me.

So you sold a Lexus at a Chrysler price even though now it sells for much higher than your original purchasing price. Sorry bro, that's a bogus comparison.

Do you know anything about anything? I may be a kid but you're some clown talking and acting like you know something you really have no idea about. Ford is bigger than Porsche. Which maker is better? That would be completely subjective and not cut and dry like you make it out to be. Just because one company is bigger doesnt mean they are better. If you want to say Kershaw is the best, thats perfectly cool and you are entitled to your opinion, but telling people they dont know crap if they think otherwise is really idiotic.

yea i have a kershaw leek and its a great little knife, I have also noticed more knives being sold in stores (maybe just me) but SOG and some other things being sold at like Home Depot, and Lowes.

It's the bead blast finish that Kershaw uses. Cheaper to use, but makes the steel easier to rust, regardless of what kind of steel it is.

Luckily, some light polishing -- not enough to really affect look of the finish -- stops any corrosion from developing in the future.

...the basic laws of supply and demand should have applied. They didn't.

...

The basic laws of supply and demand worked fine. Nobody wants the BUMP knife for an inflated price. :) BTW - That funky blade shape ain't helpin' demand.

I don't expect my Offset knives to increase in value either. Funky design akin to a Spyderco, but surely won't be on anyone's "gotta get" list. Nice conversation pieces, though. :)

Maybe the funky blade shape won't appeal to all, but what if it's a matched set??;) These two Ti Bumps were bought almost two years apart, and by some wickedly sweet twist of fate I got a matching set, serial #1004!! Too bad I have no plans on trying to sell them to see what they'd go for.:)

Won't make a bit of difference. That be a $110 or so knife. Get over it.:D

Look, the thing to remember is that we're all entitled to our own opinions. There's no reason to try and force anyone to do anything, and there's no reason to argue. If you like Spyderco better than Kershaw, then that's your choice, and there's nothing wrong with it. There are things that Spydercos do better than Kershaws, depending on the knife. Like Thomas said earlier, they aren't attempting to fill the same niches in the knife world, and really aren't direct competition.

We don't need to jump down each others throats for not having the same opinion about a knife or a knife company. What good does that do for anyone? The idea of this thread was to point out reasons that Kershaw should be considered as one of the better knife companies out there. The fact that they produce knives at pretty much every price point that are of such quality that you feel like you're getting more than you paid for them, no matter if it's the lower end or the higher, is enough for me. If they're not your thing, then who am I to try and tell you differently?

As this thread slowly spirals into a "my X is better/tougher than yours and can beat up your X" match again, I find it interesting the OP hasn't posted another comment here, even after getting some good answers.

Excellent point by Scott above.

Thanks for that, BTW.

That funky blade shape probably does put a lot of people off, but I for one find it very useful. It is a PITA to sharpen compared to other designs though. My Spec Bump makes it into my pocket quite a bit.
