Congratulating Airman Koyote Girl

CONGRATS! IT WILL SAD TO SEE you go!

Congratulations. It is no small undertaking to take the oath and toe the line. The ability to make a commitment, and live up to it is all too rare, so congratulations are due. Best wishes for your enlistment--I hope you have a great time.

I dont understand how they had you swear in without giving you a MOS. Make sure you get whatever you want TO THE T! in writing before shipping out. If they wanna play hardball threaten to back out. Joining the military is alot like buying a car. HAGGLE!

Congrats on taking your first step

The air force works differently. They provide you with a guaranty of one of your job choices, but due to their staffing method can't give you a specific job until it becomes available. You only have to choose 4 jobs minimum, but can choose as many, in order, as you like. I had 11 on my list.

Talfuchre: I like my brains where they are.... in my head. I don't need a screw top :D

Congratulations! 26 Years USAF here; Retired in 2005. I loved almost every minute of it. My advice, do some time overseas and see the world! Be Safe!

Here's a little known secret....that first swearing in doesn't count (if you're going AD). Until you swear in at MEPS right before you ship you're not really in and can walk away. Read the 2nd paragraph under DEP here.

Didn't you see that nice RED emblem over your shoulder Sierra? Christof, don't you parent that child properly. There is a nice red flag over your shoulder...

I was thinking that too but bit my tongue. :)

Sierra,

Congratulations:thumbup: I joined the Army when I was 19 and regard it as one of the best decisions I ever made. Like Rock6 said, take advantage of all the benefits.. I hope you will be around to make the occasional sheath too. I wear your leather nearly every day, and for me, my blades and leather are more than just simple objects, they are part of what I am. I thank you for all the great work that you have done and wish you the very best on this new adventure. If you are ever in a tight spot, don't forget that you have friends here.

Mike

Congratulations Sierra. It's been 13 years since I swore in to the USAF (damn I'm getting old) Still 1 of my more prouder moments.

I am sure you will do well in basic; since you are great at folding leather, tshirts and socks will be a piece of cake for you to fold. ;) (that was the hardest part of basic for me..

Anyway good luck Sierra!

Gah:eek: You're ruining my moment! JK, thanks for the info :D

Congrat to your daughter. Even though she didn't enlist in the President's own.......

MARINE CORPS!!! That big red symbol over her shoulder says it all. Congrats again!!!

I think military recruitment is very different now. (heck, i don't think you can even call it recruitment) Due to the large number of people signing up for the military now a days, most of the jobs are not available to be assigned right away. I signed up for the Navy 8 months ago, and I'm in DEP for 9 months, 20100105 I will be leaving for boot camp. I have to wait for a few days to get my rate, now according to my recruiter there are more or less 500 people waiting for their rates and some of them won't be getting it till March of next year.

I'm going to agree with ROCK6, get all the education you can from CLEPS and DANTES, I didn't and now I'm having to work my butt off just to get my associates degree.

I'm proud of you, make sure your recruiter prepares you for basic!

Best of luck, it's a great experience and it will change your life.

Sincerely,

Jon.

Awesome Sierra, thank you for stepping up.

I know you will do great.

As for Christof,

…he’s in trouble, as your sheaths are half the appeal of his knives.

I too spent some time in the USAF and loved it.

I echo the words above to soak up every ounce of experience and travel that you can. You are doing a very noble and admirable thing by joining this nation's military. Please be proud of yourself and take your training seriously.

I can't wait to hear what you choose as a job.

I was Security Forces and had a blast. No shortage of deployments in that career field but it was a blast.

If you have any questions at all feel free to post them up. I went through Basic Training in 1999 but I'd be happy to answer any questions you have at all.

OUTSTANDING!

Today when I see folks joining up, KNOWING that they are going to deploy, it takes my breath away.

When I enlisted there wasn't a war yet. It was easy to be hard because you weren't likely to have to live up to your talk. Today is different.
