Congratulations, soldier, you've been drafted. You get to bring ONE of YOUR knives.

I thought this would be a truly interesting thread. Let's say the official government drafter showed up at your house, with the recruit bus.

You're going to war. You don't know where, you don't even know which branch you're going to serve. (Let's avoid the Navy, that way you don't have too worry about saltwater all of the time). You do know that you won't have to serve more than your one tour of duty. But you have to go right now.
You've got 60 seconds to pick the only knife that's going to be available to you for your entire service (One Tour-of-duty). (This MUST be from your personal collection, please) Which one will it be? Your life or the lives of your fellow soldiers may depend on it. Oh, and you've also been informed that you won't be getting out of the "action" with any support jobs, like Cook or Chaplain or Nurse or whatever. And for sake of simplicity, you will be provided with whatever sheath will be necessary for any indivdual mission. And any knife maintence items that you request will be immediatly provided. (ie sharpeners, tuff-cloth, oil, wrenches, etc.)
BTW, how long is a tour-of-duty during Wartime? One year or two years? Somehow, I can't remember. Also, does your time in basic training count toward your tour? or just the time your are actually away fighting. And for kicks, how long is it for any of the outside-of-USA crowd?

That's a hard choice between my Battle Mistress or Project I, but I think I'd go with the Battle Mistress.

TOPS Steel Eagle. I wouldn't want to go to war without some kind of knife that doesn't sport a saw or at least serrations (my baby does both).

Easy : My Kabar Warthog - Compact enough to be carried on the LBE without too much hassle, yet an acceptable chopper. Easily sharpened in the field, excellent jump-qualified ambidextrous kydex sheath, metal buttplate for pounding, and best of all, so UGLY I won't mind adding a few scratches to the finish

Oh yes, and I'll try to smuggle in a multitool.

Take care,
Tobse !

If I got called in right now I would grab my Busse SH II or BM. But maybe I would take My TOPs Anaconda or BK&T BRUTE. Or maybe I would Take my Randal #14. Or maybe I would take My stellite Lightfoot predator. Maybe one of my HI Khukuri's, or one of my SOG bowies, or my Mission MPK, my Timberline specwar, my ontario Bagwell bowie, or my Trailmaster, recon scout, SRK or Recon Tanto................................. I'm sorry but the Bus is going to have to just wait. I can't decide. Which one would look better in olive drab?

Easy really, Fallkniven F1, black coated blade, kydex sheath; sharp, strong, hard to see (even on a sunny day) and CRUCIALLY not so long as to come out of BG's back when I grab him by the chin and stick him above the collar bone!

I don't know what came over me... I don't think this is Kansas Toto...

I would bring my 22yr old Randall#18 with
me. With it's custom titanium buttcap , and stock sheath. It has served me well to date.
As far as tours of duty, when I was in the Corps back during Nam, a tour IN country was 1 yr. Totall time that you were drafted for was 2 yrs active. I do not know how it goes these days though.

Good thread! Later.........

I would probably go with one of my Simonich Cetans. Small and easy to carry around when I'm humping 30 or 40 lbs of other stuff, sharp as all heck and easy to resharpen in the field. The big problem would be deciding on the D2 or the Talonite.

Cold Steel SRK. The only one I've got that would work...Trying for better but hey.

Does not having to grab a blade work? i.e. my MT UDT, BM CQC-7 and Leatherman already on my person?

Do it right,or not at all.

I'd take this Stanley razor knife here, cut the 13th Ammendment page out of the old high school social studies book on this shelf, hand it to the draft guy, and hamstring him while he reads it.

Then pack up the rest of my knives and go camping for awhile.
