I'm a little old and fat for this sort of thing, but if the press gang shows up and I already have six knives on my person, do I have to drop five of them?
By the way, for killing the army issues rifles. And the army issues a lot of other things that add up, so you may or may not want to add a big heavy chopper to the load. I understand that one of the most popular "tactical" knives in the military, for problem-solving in the field, is the Leatherman Tool and its various cousins.
But that "press gang" scenario suggests that law and order and organized supply systems and leadership in general are in bad shape, so maybe I'd want something that could do heavy work, and which I could use, when out of ammo, to strike one or two good blows before I go up to find out if God is really on the side I ended up on. That BK&T Brute that came in yesterday comes to mind, but I'd probably go for a more versatile "compromise" design and take the Fällkniven A1.
The slot I don't use for a really big knife would help make room for whatever folding shovel I end up with. I will certainly want a digging tool, to put some earth between me and incoming metal, and of course for field sanitation. And the shovel can also strike a heavy blow. I think I'd make sure I had a shovel before I looked around for a "combat knife."
