consensus on short barreled .45 ACP?

Thanks for the tips Les. I may try that. Its been awhile since she tried shooting the 36, and because of the problems, she already has it in her mind she doesn't like it.

Which is fine, because she does good with the 26, and thats her carry gun.

But now my curiosity is up. I could have the recoil rod and springs here in a couple days if I order them today, so we may go out this weekend and try again if she wants to. Its a good excuse to go shooting, because I haven't been going as much as I would like to lately

Nothing wrong with the 26 at all. Great little weapon. I put the wolf kit in mine with extra power springs... good kit. Don't know about the single spring since the G36 has that giant spring hole in the front. Never seen one.

Another thing you might try when shooting... I place both my thumbs on the slide. Helps me keep the weapon stable and centered. I personally wrap my left index around the front of the trigger guard as well... almost like a verticle foregrip for my finger. Since I began using that grip my follow up shots have been like three times faster. And after about a few range trips I go to that grip naturally from the draw now.

338375... I may have misread your post on the 26v36... thought it was a typo between 2and 3... as Infi-del pointed out there might not be a single spring for the 36.... I have the same spring set up on my 17,34,35, and 23... hardened stainless guide rod and ISMI spring (I use heavy 17# springs) as Infi-del pointed out the left thumb forward really helps with Glock users... if you are not familiar

you can naturally point at a target with your strong index finger, but that will be used for trigger control, so if you place your weak hand forward of strong hand in the palm swell, the weak thumb is parallel with the strong index finger...place unloaded pistol between hands, align centerline of pistol through the "V" of thumb and forefinger to a line running down strong arm... roll up strong elbow... hold pistol only with thumb and bottom 3 fingers as you would hold a hammer....trigger finger safely indexed down slide away from trigger... weak hand placed so thumb is parallel with index finger, wrap 3 or 4 fingers (I hook the weak index on the trigger guard and am told this is wrong... what do I know after 27years) you now have a stable platform which helps sight alignment with the longer pull of the Glocks.... she may need to go to a longer barreled 19 to get raliable function....

I own a Kahr P45 which has been a great gun. Accurate and reliable. Feels like it was made for my hand. Later I picked up a PM 45 and had some issues with the slide stop spring. Jury is still out on my PM.

After haning some issues with reliability I went out and bought a Glock 36. I like the 45 ACP.

I will take a look picking up a G26 gen 4 when available.

I have a Kahr MK9 and like it a lot. Really nice gun. But the one thing that makes the Glock win overall for me between the two is the trigger reset. You gotta let the kahr ALL the way out to reset it. With a cheap trigger mod the Glock can has as little reset as 1/8th of an inch. And with a 3 to 3.5 pound break it makes for a very consistent and fast DA trigger IMHO.

I do want a Kahr P45 though... I love the 45.

Kimber Tactical Ultra II -

Works, works well. Even works with CCI shotshells for snakes while deer hunting, cyles those right out of the same magazines that I use for qual and carry, no - read zero - failures with shotshells, ball, or the 230gr FED HS I use for carry.

I call it my 'snub-nosed .45'... I absolutely love this pistol.

i'm going for a Rock Island Compact Officer's model, i'm pretty sure. the price is right. I'll be immediately changing out the trigger, grip safety, and possibly hammer. changing the trigger b/c, for most of the RIA officer's i've held, i felt the trigger was kinda shoddy. particularly around the serrations. changing the grip safety because, unlike most people, i am not a fan of that long beavertail. and i like old-style, spur hammers over the rounded "combat" designs.

i'll probably try to get my hands on a non-MIM extractor. and a spare firing pin just for a rainy day.

all in all, the frame size is right for me as a carry piece. and the price is right.

I've got an old Colt Officers model. I use a Wolf extra heavy spring and Wilson Combat magazines. No problems with jamming. I used one of these gauges to check range reloads before shooting a match. If your reload won't fit in this gauge, it will probably jam your gun. No point blaming the gun for bad reloads.
