I don't know that there is a Mount Sequoyah Knives any more. The website no longer seems to exist. Their phone number is/was 479-283-8776. They may have gotten tired of dealing with Newt's problems.
 
I saw Newt Today at Ray Kirks shop tour. He is alive and well and purportedly making a hell of alot of knives. He teaches a class at Vo-tech in Kansas, Oklahoma. Find the Vo-tech and find Livesay.
 
Thanks for the post. I was checking out his knifes and thinking about buying one. Well it won't happen now.
 
keith, i seriously doubt it, newt operates on the "outta site/outta mind" principle imho.

i also thought he made good stuff for the $$, at one time i thought him and john greco offered the best knives for the least $$, not anymore.

i still think his 'woo' necker is a top notch necker and still have a 'woo' and an 'air assault' - good knives for the $$/made by a completely untrustworthy 'smith.

too bad, whats dont is done though, i wish any who he owes $$ too good luck in getting it, i would think about filing charges if it was me, this is bullshit imho.

In talking with him, he comes accross as someone who would rather stick you than try to work something out. if you went beating on his door, he would probably be "ready" for you. He is a little ways out there.
 
I also wonder if he has paid back his daughter and son-in-law for all they did in trying to make good on his debts. My guess would be, no.
 
i too would say "nope".

FWIW i would be pretty carefull about going after old newt, i dont think he's one who would be easily intimidated, YMMV though...............
 
Ron 53 and any others. His web site is back up and it has three GOOD email links that he will answer. There are note all over his site that say if you have a BACK ORDER click here. If you are really serious in contacting him all you have to do is use one of the emails. He is shipping back orders all the time, and has got them cut down from over 350 from what his site says to well under 100 knives. I email him and left a phone number. He called in less than a day and we had a long talk. He said he can not heat treat D2 right now, but has a heat treat oven ordered and will be doing D2 and all stainless orders after the first of the year in 2009. He will work with you if you contact him, but many people who post here especially do not even have a dog in this fight they just like stirring things up. He has had a bad run of luck with his shop being robbed, his wife being murdered, and a recent bad fall has crippled him up some. He has always been right with me even when he could not get my order out on time.
 
i agree, he had alot of bad luck in the last time and his mom is sick too.

its not ok for be so late but he works hard to get back up & make it right.

I like Newt's knives, but I had a heck of a time several years back getting him to ship me two of them. He always had an excuse about some problems with getting steel laser cut, etc. He finally did send the knives.

I believe his daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago. If he is back, I hope he can crank out some knives.

I just checked his website a few minutes ago. Down.

I will second , third, whatever this. I have had dealing with both of these low lifes and no knives to show for it!
 
I hope that Newt takes care of everyone that he owes. Maybe we will see some posts by people that he has sent knives to recently. If he has filled 250 backorders, some of those people that have posted earlier about not getting knives should have had that situation corrected.
