I've owned the 810 Contego twice, and sold it twice. I just absolutely hate the ergonomics and it's THE WORST feeling knife I've ever owned. Most reviews of this knife on the internet is positive, I think mainly owning to the M4 steel and the blade shape. I would love to have BM redesign the handle on this knife.

Anyways, I want to hear from all those who dislike this knife. Please don't post in the thread about how much you love this knife, there are already plenty of love threads out there. I only want to hear from people who have had a negative experience with the 810 like myself.

100% with you. Absolutely love the lock, the blade shape, the grinds on mine are just about perfect, perfectly centered, all around great. But it's the only folder I own that is actually painful to use without gloves. I wish the handle was better because I want to love it, but I have a fondness for my skin and I like to keep it.

If they would put a thumb hole on it and get rid of the stud, I'd be in!

The day it came in the mail it was for sale again haha. Extremely uncomfortable grip and glass breaker kill it.

I'm curious, do you guys have issue with the overall shape of the handle or just the aggressive texture and jimping? I never EDC'd mine either, it stayed in the toolbox and only got used with rawhide gloves.

In answer to your question, yes.

both, not only is the shape of the handle weird and uncomfortable, the jimping and texture is also irritating

Odd reason to start a thread. Hate is an emotion. If it does not work for you, that is the way things go - we all have different preferences, but hate? Did it bite you ;) ? I like mine, both of them :)

Here's a pic I used to sell it. Notice the handle looks sharper than the blade.

Benchmade reduced the jimping on subsequent runs of the 810. Did you buy one early on, or later? I kept my 810-1401 and sold my Adamas, but the Adamas handle is definitely more comfortable. I just find the Contego's blade shape to be more suited to what I need. I'm ready to disassemble it and grind off the jimping, though. It is definitely hard on the hands. I almost wonder if they used liners from the first run for the dealer exclusive!

After buying knives without enough grip, the Contego came along to quash any doubts. I had an early version and loved the blade, but the scalloped G-10 and glass breaker broke the deal. Sold to, or traded with someone, I have no desire for another. Actually, if you look at the fixed version, placing those scales on the 810 would be a great solution. But do I hate the knife? No it's a very interesting design that begs for a scale swap.
