When I asked the seller to keep the package discret I didn't mean him to lie so much on the customs declaration! Thanks a lot anyway... that will surely draw less attention from Customs. We ordered some stuff not long ago. It was sent on 16th, arrived to Spain on 19th and the mail man knocked at my door on 22th afternoon. Don't you just love it when a huge package arrives?

This is what we got (I am affraid that I will need like two posts to show you all the pictures I took):

Left column from top to bottom: RAT-7, BRKT Canadian Camp, Falkniven S1 and BRKT Aurora.
Right colum from top to bottom: RC-4, Spyderco Rescue Wave and a Boker.

Now let's check them out one by one (maybe someone finds useful the on-hand pictures... I do find them useful when reviewing new knives!)

img5647pequeuh8.jpg

Ontario RAT-7 in 1095 carbon steel. My friend Iñaki was jealous of my RAT-7 in D2 so he ordered one. I suggested him buying the 1095 one instead of the D2 (supposed to be tougher and easier to sharpen). I don't have it here now to check out all the details but this sheath was nothing close to the SpecOps that fitted mine. The kydex liner was not kydex... or at least didn't look like kydex. It had a shoelace instead of paracord and the material seemed less rugged. The pouch style was different as well. I got to say I like mine better...

RAT Cutlery RC-4. It is all the rage now so I won't say much more. It is for my friend Iñaki as well. I really liked the feeling of it in my hand.

Falkniven S1 with nylon sheat. You bet! This is for Iñaki as well. He wanted an F1 but I showed him a picture of the F1 and the RC-4 side by side (I found it here on BF) and they where pretty much the same size. I suggested him buying something in between the RAT-7 and the RC-4... the S1 seemed like a great choice. I like this knife overall but I don't like the ... uh... how do you call it... mmm swedge? false edge? Sure it helps on penetration but weakens the tip and is hell on battons while battoning.

Oops... just reached the 10 images per post limit so I will upload the rest on the next one.

Now let's see some folders

img5658pequent0.jpg

Spyderco Rescue Wave. Serrated edge, blunt tip and one hand openning, what else could you ask for when looking for a knife to work arround ropes while climbing in low light conditions with wet hands? Well... glow-in-the-dark handles if you ask me but you can't get much better than that. This one was for my friend Manu (Iñaki and me already own one exactly like that).

img5660pequeei3.jpg

Boker with Titanium handles and CPM-S60V blade. My friend Manu got a Byrd Cara Cara in our last order and while the knife is great (size, shape, heft, etc) it is very heavy. He was looking for something a little bit smaller and definitely lighter. He found out about Boker folders and found one where you could chose between 440C and 440V steel... He went with the latest. When it arrived we where surprised because the engraving said CPM-S60V... funny. It is definitely lighter and shaved right out of the box but if I had seen it before buying... I wouldn't have taken it. The machinning was not up to Spyderco quality... there was a little bit of side play and the overall feeling was that of a cheapo (in spite of the great blade steel). As long as it doesn't get any worse with time it will be ok.

Now let's see what I got for MYSELF!

img5672pequeqy4.jpg

img5664pequern3.jpg

img5669pequefo8.jpg

BRKT Canadian Camp and BRKT Aurora. Both with solid pins and Antique Ivory Micarta handles (can't get any cheaper than that... well... black micarta is like $3 cheaper I guess).
Both knives look great. They have "that" old style overall feeling... The look so old style that my mom saw them and said: "Geeeeh.. What great looking kitchen knives you just bought!" WTF!!!!!
I got a tiny bit dissapointed though... All the knives already reviewed here where shaving sharp... but the Aurora was not. It took a fair amount of elbow grease (along with sandpaper and green butter loaded strop) to get it shaving sharp. The Canadian Camp was sharp but the grind was not that even where the blade met the handles (I will fix it with time and sharpenning sessions). The handles have two nicks in front of them (where they meet the blade). They seem like saw marks like 1mm deep (done while grinding or something?). They don't bother me much... this knives are meant to be users and they will probably come back much worse the first time I take them out. Somehow I just didn't expect this things from BRKT.

I was just checking how sharp of a knife the Canadian Camp was that somehow I managed to cut myself open... never knew how it happened!

.... just kidding. I got "apendicitis" surgery last week. Got cut open on Tuesday, sent home on Saturday morning and today I am getting the staples removed. I guess I won't be so sexy any more... lol.

I know what you mean about that sheath. Same as my RAT-5. I actually like it with the exception of the snap/strap, but I don't expect it to last very long. Actually I'm going out for a few days and half way don't expect it to last the trip.

Man, thats a box id like to get! Nice haul for sure. How you likin those barkies? I hope those are for you! I just got a waved endura yesterday, and am really impresses. Cool knife.

You guys better check out the thread again... I couldn't upload all the pictures at the same time so I threw a new post and I was editing while you read the first one...

I like the Barkies a lot, i just can't wait to go outside and try them out.

hahah, you got me with the whole cut/apendicts thing.

That a handful of awesome knives, have fun!

Very nice haul there. RATS, Barks, Fallkniven, you made some great choices !

That also surprises me about the Bark Rivers...that's too bad, I am sure they would fix it for you but seeing as you're in Spain the logistics of getting that done probably make it worthwhile to just live with it.

That's really unfortunate, though, my Aurora was just mint when it arrived and came sharper than any knife I remember out of the box...generally the first thing I do when I buy knives is sharpen them but for once I left one alone.

Anyway those are some good cutting tools! Right on!

Exactly. If I wanted to collect them I will probably send them back but living in Spain and being both users... I didn't give it a second thought. I just sharpened it and it is good to go.

Dang I bet the blood flowed from the slit.....nothing fell out...
That would have made for a lot nicer pictures, haven't it? ;)

Did you guys notice that the Aurora (while being smaller, lighter, less materials involved in the knife itself and the sheath) retails $10 more than the Canadian Camp? Maybe it just takes more hours to make...

Next on the list... Bravo1 and maybe a FoxRiver... Just gimme like three months or so.

Nice set of knives. I noticed a bit of poor quality control on BRKT's also. If you buy them in sets of 2 and compare side by side, model for model, you WILL notice the discrepancies in the grinds, choils, ricasso areas, handles/scales overall quality. They are nice looking; but I'd like to see BRKT slow down their production line, and produce more quality, than 'rush' them out the door with minor defects in the yes of the buyer.

Nice staple job, not that it's any laughing matter to have appendicitis.

Thats a pretty nice haul. I just got a Rat7 from a raffle prize. They're pretty dang nice!

I don't know anyone arround who owns BRKT knives and somehow I suspect that my pals are not going to order some of these in the future either. They are more into the military looking stuff (coated blades, kydex/cordura sheaths... you know what I mean) so I won't be able to compare them.

I hope the next ones have a more consistent quality...

nice Knives - -was your appendix ruptured? that's a good sized incision for an appendectomy.

I have a bark river Fox River & Northstar - neither was what I would call shaving sharp when they arrived - they were sharp, just not razor sharp. It took a little stropping to get them up to a really sharp edge.

Holy hell, that's an amazing package to get! Great label for customs, and great choices. Those knives are some of the coolest blades I own/hope to own.
